Ilsan and Tahnyeon |
Ilsan is North of Seoul, considered to be in the city region of Goyang-City. Ilsan is about the halfway point between Seoul and the Demarcation Line (the official line seperating the North and South of Korea). Tahnyeon is the Northern-most point in Ilsan and I live in the northern corner of Tahnyeon. The Demarcation Line and the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is roughly 15-20km away. Thus Ilsan is surrounded by military bases and large batteries. Ilsan is considered a sub-city of Seoul and has all the benefits of Seoul, such as being connected to the subway line (Line 3 Orange) and bus systems. My school is located in central Ilsan by Juyeop station (2nd last stop on Line 3). Ilsan is much cleaner and greener than Seoul metro but still consists of hundreds of office and residential towers. Below are pictures of my neighborhood. |

Outside my window looking south-east. This is Christmas Day 2002. The buildings in the far distance is Ilsan-centre where I work. I walk everyday. As you can see there are many residential towers. |

The next batch of pictures is from my daily walk to work or to the subway (Juyeop Station). I walk through a few pedestrian parks so I encounter very little traffic. As you will see the towers surround me always. This is all Ilsan-gu. The pictures cover nearly 4km of my walk.. |
