Titans scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning. David Newhan doubled. Hideki Matsui stepped up to the plate and he reached on an error. Jim Edmonds then was walked intentionally to load the bases. John Mabry came up and he smacked a single giving Titans the victory as 38,844 happy fans celebrated wildly. Titans had only 6 hits for the night. The victory went to Sheets(2-0) who went the distance allowing 1 run. The loss was charged to Curt Schilling(0-2). He pitched 8 innings and surrendered just 5 hits and 1 walk. Bob James was asked about the performance of Sheets, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.' [2] [
