Russian Overture, Op. 72 (1937)

The Russian Overture is an unashamedly highspirited work combining folk-like tunes with quirky harmonies and marvellous orchestration. Prokofiev originally scored the piece for quadruple woodwind, but a year later reduced its Mahlerian proportions to a rather mmore economical size.
