Four Pieces for Orchestra Four pieces for orchestra (Cztery utwory na orkiestre) were written during my studies at the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. The work is scored for a small orchestra comprising single woodwinds, little brass section, harp, strings and a lot of percussion. Each piece uses a different five-tone scale. However, in each proceeding movement remains something from the previous one. They are like separate worlds, but the second contains a piece of the first, the third - pieces of the previous both, combined in the punctualistic, post-Webern way, eventually the fourth connects all the worlds using mathematic and statistic rules. The first and last movement bear traces of very different inspiration: first resembles so called "deer stones" found abandoned in vast steppes of Mongolia, the other uses a kind of metric cycles resembling those met in the Indian rhythm theory. The final sound - B - has never been used during the entire piece except of this, last, final sound. 10' You need a RealAudio™ player to hear the music: |
