San Francisco RUSH Extreme Racing (N64) - Key FAQ
=================================================
This FAQ will detail where all the hidden keys are located and how to obtain
them.  Finding half of the keys on a certain track will enable the special
TAXI (Ooooh!).  Finding all of the keys on a certain track will enable the 
special HOT-ROD (Yeah!).


Track #1 - 6 Keys
-----------------
Key #1 - Directly behind you at the start of the race.  Turn around at the
         start and drive back to the dead end.
Key #2 - Suspended in air on your left before you reach the Golden Gate
         bridge.  Drive well past the key, turn around and accelerate to hit
         the bump on the right side of the road against the railing and 
         launch you into the air.
Key #3 - Suspended high in the air on your left just past the Golden Gate
         bridge.  Do not use the jump ramp next to the toll booths but rather 
         the grass hill behind it.  Accelerate to a high rate of speed as you
         near the end of the bridge. 
Key #4 - Just past the Presidio tunnel there is a break-away section in the
         fence to your left with a dirt path behind it.  Crash through the
         fence and proceed up the grass hill to your left.  The key is at the
         top of the hill.
Key #5 - Just past the finish line on the far left is a tunnel into the hill.
         Proceed through the tunnel and the key will be on your left just as
         you exit it.
Key #6 - Also just past the finish line on the left is a narrow embankment.
         Get on the grass and drive on the embankment alongside the wall 
         until you run into the key.

Track #2 - 7 Keys
-----------------
Key #1 - Drive through the cones and proceed to the point where the overpass
         is broken.  Go slowly and fall off at an angle to the level below.
         Follow this all the way back until the dead-end where the key is
         located.
Key #2 - Drive through the cones and jump across to the other side of the
         broken overpass.  The overpass will take you to a huge half-pipe
         with loops at both ends.  At the top of the far loop a key is
         suspended in the air.
Key #3 - In the far side wall of the half-pipe directly between the two loops
         is a small room.  Drive up the side of the half-pipe and into the
         room where you will find the key.
Key #4 - Drive under the semi-trailer and jump on top of the roofs.  Proceed
         to the jump ramp and fall off the far left side at a very slow speed.
         The key is at the bottom in the alley.
Key #5 - Just past the semi-trailer turn there is a small underground entrance
         in the building on the left.  The key is at the bottom of the tunnel.
Key #6 - Just past the semi-trailer turn there is a fountain in the plaza in
         front of the building on the left.  Use the fountain as a jump ramp
         and jump into the center of the building.  There is a tunnel through
         the building hidden by the glass panels.  The tunnel is lined with
         "DANGER!" signs and the key sits in the middle of the tunnel.
Key #7 - Go to the second fountain on the opposite side of the building and
         drive into it.  There is a key at the bottom.

Track #3 - 8 Keys
-----------------
Key #1 - At the first left hand turn there is a staircase to your left.  Drive
         up the staircase to a small platform where the key is located.
Key #2 - There is a key suspended in air underneath one of the CHECKPOINT 
         signs.  Drive past the checkpoint and around the corner towards the
         Coit tower.  Turn around and proceed back up the sharp up-hill turn
         at a high rate of speed to jump into the key.
Key #3 - To the left of the Coit tower are small white buildings.  Drive 
         between the buildings and enter a dirt half-pipe.  The key is
         suspended in air on the right even with the first rock obstruction.
         Simply drive up the side of the half-pipe to reach it.
Key #4 - In the center of the huge tunnel before the long down-hill jump a key 
         is suspended in air.  Simply drive to the bottom of the hill, turn 
         around and drive at a high rate of speed to jump into it.
Key #5 - After passing through Chinatown proceed up the road through several
         up hill turns.  At the last right hand turn there is a gap in the
         wooden fence behind the building.  Go through the gap to find a
         tunnel entrance to a room that is entirely sky textured.  The key
         is in a corner of the room.
Key #6 - Drive through the cones at the Chinatown turn and up to the top of
         the hill.  Instead of jumping to the top of Lombard street slow down
         and turn right onto the side street at the last jump.  A key is on
         the next corner.
Key #7 - As you head downhill towards the starting straight-away there is a
         small platform on your left near the tunnel exit.  Simply drive close
         to the building and onto the platform to reach the key.
Key #8 - Just past the finish line is a trolley on your left.  The key is on
         the far side of the trolley.

Track #4 - 8 Keys
-----------------
Key #1 - Immediately to your left just past the start is a fenced in bus stop
         with a key in the middle.  Go past it and jump from the grass to land
         on the key.
Key #2 - Floating above the grassy hill on your left just past the plaza which
         contains a statue and a fountain.  Hit the sharply sloped side of the
         grassy hill to jump into the key.
Key #3 - There is an opening in the buildings to the right just before the
         first checkpoint.  Follow the road through the buildings and across
         the road to hit a grass ramp which will launch to up to one of three
         entrances into the side of the building.  The highest entrance will
         take you to a key directly in the middle of the building.
Key #4 - The 2nd highest entrance will take you on a connector through several
         buildings.  At the last building hit the brakes to land on the roof
         and back up to get the key.
Key #5 - There is a red parking garage on your left as you approach the drop
         off in the road.  Simply follow the ramp slowly into the garage where
         a key is waiting.
Key #6 - Just past the waterfall on your right are two jump ramps into the 
         side of a building.  Jump the ramp on the far right and aim your car
         towards the right.  You should fly straight towards a key on the 
         right side of the next jump ramp.
Key #7 - Drive past the grass jump ramp you used to obtain Keys #3 & #4.  Turn
         left and there will be a small alley in between 2 buildings on your
         right.  The key is at the end of the alley.
Key #8 - Just before the two roads re-join at the start/finish line there is
         another alley between 2 buildings on the left path.  The key is at
         the end of the alley.

Track #5 - 8 Keys
-----------------
Key #1 - Turn right at the marina and drive past all the buildings and down
         onto the beach.  Turn around and proceed to hit the ramp to launch
         your car on top of the first building and hit the brakes.  Now jump
         to the nieghboring building that extends all the way out into the
         ocean.  There is a key at the far end of the building.
Key #2 - Follow the same procedure as Key #1 but try to double-jump onto
         the first building and then onto the third.  Drive across the 
         connector to the fourth building where a key is on the roof.
Key #3 - In the wall across from the marina there is a small gap directly in
         the middle of the long stretch of arrow signs.  Drive through it at
         high speed to hit the jump ramp in the next row of houses, then
         double-jump off the roof you land on to launch you at a key on the
         roof of the building next to the row of trees.
Key #4 - Instead of jumping off the ramp used for Key #3 turn left just past
         it and turn right at the next corner.  There is a small gap between
         the corner building and it's neighbor that contains a key.
Key #5 - At the fork in the track hit the small dirt ramp on the left side
         of the road to launch you over the short building.  There is a key
         floating directly above it.
Key #6 - Turn into the small platform at the "smiley Shell" gas station on 
         the corner.  There is a key in the back corner.
Key #7 - Drive up the entrance to the building which doubles as a jump ramp.
         It is located on the right side of the road on the last up-hill
         stretch of the track.  Jump through the building and land on a small
         landing ramp.  Instead of proceeding to the spike filled pit, turn
         around and proceed back.  There is a key at the dead-end.
Key #8 - There is a small parking area in between buildings on the right side
         of the final down hill stretch of track.  Simply drive through the
         wall into the parking garage where the key is sitting.

Track #6 - 8 Keys
-----------------
Key #1 - In the retaining wall to your left just past the first checkpoint is
         a fenced off hole.  Drive through the fence to a small room which
         contains a key.
Key #2 - After making the hairpin turn at the end of the water go past the
         bridge and drive on the grass alongside the water.  The key is 
         sitting next to a tree.
Key #3 - Floating above a small island in the ocean a short distance away
         from the shore.  Jump from the road to fly and land on the key.
Key #4 - Drive on the shoreline behind the buildings near the islands.  There
         is a small recess in the back of the first building that hides a key.
Key #5 - At the back corner of the parking lot on your left just before
         checkpoint #4 a key sits around the corner of the building.
Key #6 - Drive off the main road to the right just before checkpoint #4.
         Follow alongside the short wall until it ends and proceed down
         towards the water.  There is a tunnel in the side of the hill that
         leads to a cave which contains a loop with a key floating in the
         middle of it along with several jumping platforms.
Key #7 - The cave has a suspended ceiling.  Drive up one of the side walls at
         a high rate of speed going away from the entrance to get on top of
         the suspended ceiling.  Climb the short wall to the middle where you
         will find another key.
Key #8 - Just past checkpoint #4 is a columned building.  Drive into the 
         building to get the key.

Glitch Help

This glitch can/will help you get keys and go to places easier.To do the glitch,you need to activate the resurrection code to abort in the same place.Then go to any track in circuit,one race, or practice.You should also turn time on,for collecting keys.Okay,to do this,hold B until you stop.Then hit the abort button.You have to keep holding on to the B button!You should start floating in the air.Hit abort again when you stop floating to go higher.You can do this almost any time you want(in jumps,wrecking,etc.)Sometimes you can tumble in the air.It looks pretty cool.You can also find out how fast your car can go by doing the trick,then start holding the A button.Every car can go about 200 or more.


Auto Abort on Demand

You can activate auto abort anytime while you are accelerating in the game.

Process: While you are holding the A button down and accelerating, press the C-UP button down and auto abort will be activated. This is a valuable feature in that you can save time by quickly getting back on track even right before an impending high speed crash. You can use this as a cheat by for example accelerating down a steep hillside and activating auto abort right before you crash at the bottom. The drone cars cheat in the game so why shouldn't you be able to?


Smart Shifting

I noticed this while playing S.F. Rush. On corners, instead of using the brake I usually use the A button and the C-down button(reverse) to do power slides. Depending on the speed you are going when you hold A and tap C-down, you will shift to the gear that is appropriate.(You must be using manual transmission, obviously) So, let's say you go around a corner and bump into the guard rail and it slows you down but you aren't sure whether or not to shift down, just hold the A button and tap C-down and you will shift to the appropriate gear.

Note: Your Gear Shift in the upper-right hand corner will show that you shifted to Reverse for a brief instant, however, it shouldn't slow you down if you do it correctly.


Tons More Key Help

Track #3:
1. Well, the first one I came across is in a shortcut that's off road next to a really tall, skinny strcuture around some trees. There are two identical blue houses jsut past it. Anyways past that, there's a sort of white and greenish halfpip that goes for some bit. Well when you come across the first rocks that run across the bottom of the halfpipe, if you look up and to the right side of the half pipe, over the rocks, you'll see a key. I presume using the rocks and the half pip to get it would be the easy way.

2. Right after exiting the shortcut mentioned above, you'll be back on the road. There'll be a dip just after the shortcut's exit with a structure over it. There's the key. The way to get this is to pass it up, and then backtrack uphill and get enough speed to get it.

3. The other one I noticed is a while down after the one above. It's after two relatively sharp turns left. The road heads uproad, and it'll join with another road marked with cones. Turn around, knock away the cones, and you'll come to a dead end. Look right, and you'll see the road drops off. You'll also notice a key well belnded into the background a little to the right suspended in the air. How to get it, your guess is as good as mine.

Track #2
On level two,I found a tough to get key. When driving up the bridge come to a stop on the edge.SLowly drive off.You will fall to the bridge below you where there is an extra key. This trick is much easier with the resurect in place cheat activated.

Track #6
1. After you pass the first check point in the race turn left into the fenced in cave type thing. if you go straight into the key you will go through the wall into a hidden tunnel shortcut.

2. If you follow along the lake edge through the woods on the southern part of the track you will eventually see a key hidden behind a rise of land.

3. This one isn't that hard to find but took me quite a while to figure out how to get. When returning on the Espalanande( the road with all the busses) do not take the shortcut leading up. Continue straight into the curve. As you approach it head straight towards the rock wall. There is a hard to see ramp that will launch you to the seall rocks. The key is on a small island.

4. Behind the buildings on the curve by the seal rocks there is a small crevice with a key hidden in it.

5. As you are going over the dirt road you go by the Palace of the Legion of Honor. There is a driveway leading into it inside there is a key.

6. After the key at the palace go to the barrier behind the building. Follow it down to the parking lot behind the buildings. In the corner closest to the barrier is a key.

7. The next two key's are in the hidden skatepark. As you enter the skatepark turn to the right and don't go into the loop. The big wedge ramp can be used to jump through the loop to get the key in the middle.

8. The last key is in a corner of the pool on the second level.

Track #5
1.As you begin the race go along the right wall and around the barrier. This takes you through a gate and into fort Mason. Go down by the barrack type buildings and backtrack until you are in the sznd you must use the berm going into the sand and jump and richochet off the first set of buildings and land on the second set where there is a key.

2. The second key is reached using the same jump as the first. The key is on top of the building extending into the water to the right as you go off the jump.

3+4 There are two keys hidden on the ground in the marina district. I forget where but they are fairly easy to find.

5. As you are traveling on the main track approaching the harbor there is a gap in the buildings in front of you that leads into the marina district. If you go through it without hitting any trees, hit the ramp straight ahead, hit the angled roof on top of on of the houses( You can see the roof clearly as you approach the jump), you will bounce and hopefully land on the roof of a wide building. There is a key on top.

6. As you are going uphill approaching the split in the road by Normandy Terrace (the square box on southern most part of the track) you should get all the way to the left and as you approach the dirt ramp turn right so you fly through the gap in the buildings in front of you. There is a key suspended in the air on top of the building.

7. Instead of going off the ramp in number 6 turn right and then left to go around Normandy Terrace. As you come to the turn where you have to go left slow down. On the corner there is a gas station if you pull into it you will find the last key.


Hidden Pool

In Level 6 when you are near the top if the map almost up the hill you will pass under a danger sign and a curvy road sign will be on your right.Take a hard right at these signs onto a gray area, then keep right and follow the fence down the mountain.

Right before the water on your left will be a tunnel going into the mountain. Hop inside and keep your speed up to try the loop inside. There are many ramp like things on the ground but set your sights above There is another level high near the ceiling.

To reach it, don't use the ramps. Just get up some speed and drive up the wall towards the opening. If you are positioned right you will land on the upper level. There you will find the pool. Well not really full of water but in a skating sense, like the halfpipe. There are at least two keys in this huge cave.


Hidden Stunt Zone

On track 5 at the top the very big hill near seal rock, (the northern end on your map) there is a ramp stunt course. Turn right(-->),just before the checkpoint and go down the big hill twards the ocean. There is a concrete barrier there also-use it as a guide. At the bottom of the hill, there is a passage way. Speed down that passage way as fast as you can because there is a big loop at the other end and a stunt course with lots of ramps!


Hidden Halfpipe

Go to practice mode track 2 and drive to the broken freeway section. Get into the far left lane and keep your speed from115 to 120 mph as you attempt to jump the broken freeway. You should land on the freeway below.

Keep going straight and you will come to a massive halfpipe with a loop on both ends. Two keys are hiding in this halfpipe area. Can you find them?

(If you look behind you after you jump to the freeway leading to the halfpipe,you can see that there is more freeway extending under the part you just jumped from and above you as well, how to reach that I know not.)

(If you turn off Time, car ressurect and reset with the other codes on this page, you can go to one race and still collect keys without a limit)


Auto Abort Disable

Description: This disables the auto abort in San Francisco Rush. Normally, if a car stops for a period of time (i.e. stuck on a wall), the game will automatically move the car back to the course.

How to Enter: On the Setup screen then press Up C, Up C, Up C, Up C. A small icon with "00.06" will appear along the bottom of the screen if the code is entered correctly. Repeat the code to turn this option off.


Back Tire Size

Description: This will switch between small, medium, and large front tires.

How to Enter: On the Car Select screen, press and hold Right C then Left C and release both buttons. Then press and hold Left C then Right C to activate the code. The car in the viewing window will reflect the changes. Use the code repeatedly to change between the different tire sizes.


Burning Car Replay

Description: This displays a replay of the race, but your car is displayed as a burnt-out hulk.

How to Enter: As you cross the finish line, crash your car. After "Game Over" starts flashing, and before it has stopped flashing, hold down the L, R and Z Buttons until the post-game high score display demo begins. Your car will still be crashed and burning, but will be driving around the track is if nothing was wrong.


Car Size

Description: This changes your car between small, regular, and large sizes.

How to Enter: On the Car Select Screen press and hold Down C then Up C and release both buttons. Then press and hold Up C then Down C and release both buttons to activate the code. The car in the viewing window will reflect the changes. Repeat the code to switch to the next size.


Change Fog Color

Description: This changes the color of the fog between several different colors.

How to Enter: On the Car Select Screen hold the Z Button and press Down C, Down C, Down C. The color of the fog in the viewing window will change.


Change Gravity

Description: Changes the game gravity to increase or decrease the weight of the car.

How to Enter: On the Setup screen hold the Z Button and press Up, Down on the Control Pad/Stick. Release the Z Button and press Up, Down, Up, Down. The symbol of a weight will appear along the top of the screen. Repeat the code to switch between several gravity options.


Change Track Textures

Description: Switches between normal, no textures, or rainbow textures.

How to Enter: On the Setup screen, press and hold Right C then press the L Button. Release both buttons, then press the Z Button. Press and hold Right C then press the L Button and release both buttons. Press the Z Button again to activate the code. If the code is entered correctly, a small checkered pattern will appear along the bottom of the screen. Repeat the code to switch between the different textures.


Change Viewing Distance

Description: This will allow players to change the camera viewing distance and height when viewing the car from behind..

How to Enter: During a race, hold the View (L Button) and press Up or Down on the Control Pad/Stick to change the camera distance.


Random High Score Names

Description: Any unused entries in the list which would normally be filled with our default names and scores will cycle randomly.

How to Enter: When viewing the Fast Times or Best Laps information from the Records screen, press L, R, L, R, L, R, L, R.


Disable car-to-car Collisions

Description: This turns on and off car collisons, allowing your car to pass through other cars without taking damage.

How to Enter: On the Setup screen, press Left then hold Right then press Right C and release both buttons, then press Up C, Left C, Down C, Z Button. A bus icon will appear along the bottom of the screen if entered correctly. Repeat the code to turn this option off.


Drive an Exploding Hulk

Description: This code allows you to drive a burnt-out hulk.

How to Enter: On the Car Select screen, Hold Up C and press Z, Z, Z, Z. Repeat the code to switch between smoking hulk, burnt-out hulk, or normal.


Special Car in Circuit Mode

Description: Allows players to use a special car during the circuit races.

How to Enter: Win a Circuit. From then on, if you are using the same player, you can Press Z, Z, Z, Z on the Track Select screen to enable the special car.


Front Tire Size

Description: This code allows the player to change between small, normal, and large front tire sizes.

How to Enter: On the Car Select Screen press and hold Left C then Right C. Release both buttons. Press and hold Right C then Left C, then release both buttons to activate the code. Changes will be displayed in the viewing window. Repeat the code to switch between the different sizes.


Infinite Time

Description: This code disables the time clock.

How to Enter: On the Setup screen, hold the Z Button, then press and hold Down C then Up C. Continue to hold the Z Button, and release the C Buttons. Press and hold Up C then Down C to activate the code. A small clock with line through it will appear if the code is entered correctly. Repeat the code to deactivate this option.


Mirror Controls

Description: This changes all controls so left is right and vice versa.

How to Enter: On the Options screen, highlight "Mirror" and hold all four C Buttons. Press Left/Right on the Control Pad/Stick to view an extra option called "Extreme."


Resurrect in Place

Description: This will attempt to place the car at the same spot as where the car was destroyed. It will make one attempt to place the car in the same spot but if it cannot, it will then will move the car back onto the track.

How to Enter: On the Setup screen, hold the Z Button, then press and hold Left C then Right C. Continue to hold the Z Button, and release the C Buttons. Press and hold Right C then Left C to activate the code. A small "R" with line through it will appear if the code is entered correctly. Repeat the code to deactivate this option.


Tag Mode

Description: Allows players to play a special game of tag.

How to Enter: Hit the abort button during the countdown sequence at the start of a 2-player practice game. The timer will be set to 5 minutes. When you‘re IT, your timer is running. IT must tag the other player to stop his timer and make the other player IT. The newly-IT player will resurrect in place, causing a delay and giving the former IT time to escape. Player 2 is always IT first. When time runs out, "Game Over" shows until someone presses Start.


Drive the Cab

Acquiring half the keys on any course in a regular race will unlock the cab. Note: Keys can be saved using the memory pak. Six to eight keys are hidden in each track. Hidden cars are exclusive to the track in which they have been unlocked.


Drive the Hot-rod

Acquiring all the keys on any course in a regular race will unlock the hot-rod. Note: Keys can be saved using the memory pak. Six to eight keys are hidden in each track. Hidden cars are exclusive to the track in which they have been unlocked.


Move the screen around

When I was playing Sanfransico Rush I was just pressing buttons trying to do something when I held down L and R and moved the Joystick around and the screen moved! When you move it and let go it stays in the place that you put it!


Key Help

In every track of SFRush there are several keys. Collecting these keys while you are driving gives you special cars. You do not have to collect all the keys at once. Once you grab a key it will no longer show up on the track.

First Track:
1.There is a key right behind you if you turn around and drive to the left, rear of the tunnel.

2.The second key is right after the "Mace" billboards at the start of the race. The only way to grab it is to drive half-way across the Goldengate bridge and turn around. Then drive back towards the starting line. As soon as you get off the bridge turn left onto the sand. You should see the key at the top of the screen get lined up as quickly as you can and a hidden bump will send you tumbling through the air and into the key (If you have lined up right).

3. This was a tough one. As soon as you get off the Golden Gate bridge you will go through a checkpoint. Right after the checkpoint, turn left and head for the hill. If you hit the hill just right and at almost full speed you will again tumble into the next key.

4. Just after the first tunnel there is a brown fence at the left side of the road. A few seconds after you exit the tunnel there is a place where the fence is pushed back and you can break the fence there. This is a shortcut. If you drive along the far left side of the shortcut you will find this key.

5. Right after completing the first lap there is a very small tunnel directly left of the finish line. Go through the tunnel. Just as you pull out of the tunnel slow down and turn left. There is a key right against the wall.

6. After finishing a lap, there will be a part of the grass on the left side of the track that raises up above the road. If you follow it along the side of the road you will find a key on the ledge just before it drops off.

Foggy Night

Go to the Options screen and change "Fog" to the Heavy setting. Then hold all four C buttons and press right on the Control Pad. You should now have access to Foggy Night.


Turn Cones into Mines

From Setup screen: L, R, L, R, L, R (quickly).

This code turns all the cones in San Francisco Rush into huge mines that blow up anything that touches them.


Turn Tracks Upside-down

From Setup screen: Up, Right, Down, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left.

This code enables players to race the game upside down.
