Jumps

The jumps done in pairs are similar to the jumps in singles except they are less demanding. Pairs skaters do not have to do jump combinations and a triple axel is not required. Pairs skating however requires pairs to perform solo side by side jumps and throw jumps. [refer to singles skating - jumps for lists of jumps]

For solo side by side jumps, the skaters skate in the same direction with similar speed and is supposed to take off and land in unison. The most commonly executed pair jumps are : -
pair triple toe
pair triple salchow
pair triple flip
pair double axel

Throw jumps are executed by the man skating beside the lady, who is doing the set ups for the selected jump. The man will hold one of the hands and have the other hand on her hips. On the take off, the lady will do the jump while the man will give a throw, hauling her up. Russian pairs tend to emphasize on distance than height of a throw jump to minimize injuries. Personally, I feel that a throw jump with more distance than height is more dramatic than a throw jumps which is of great height but less distance. The most difficult throw jump presented in competitions is the throw double axel, at the moment.
