Now that the new year has begun, duet recitals are just around the corner- Sunday, February 23, to be exact. Students who will be performing in the duet recitals will have to make a few extra trips to the studio to rehearse with their partner. Our Saturday classes on February 22 will serve as a final rehearsal, so please make an extra effort to be there.
Guild and KMTA Keyboard Festivals don’t happen until May, but students who want to perform in either must have their registration fees in no later than January 20. The fees are non-refundable, so please check your calendars now to make sure that you will be able to participate. Guild is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, and the KMTA Festival will be held on Friday, May 9. Both events take place at the University of Louisville School of Music.
When playing a duet, you must be able to listen to both parts to ensure proper balance. You also have to work carefully to stay with your partner whether the music speeds up, slows down, or remains steady. The ultimate goal for four-hand players is to sound like one player with four hands.
When practicing, make sure to sit in exactly the same position as if your partner were there.
