MICHAEL NIGRIN

Michael Nigrin was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His family moved to the United States when he was 3. He attended the Juilliard School of Music earning his Master of Music in 1988. He was a top prize winner in the Pittsburgh Concert Society Competition. He was also a top prize winner of both the Juilliard Double-Bass Competition, and the Carnegie-Mellon Concerto Competition. His first orchestral job was as Principal Bass of the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra under Maxim Shostakovich. He joined the Buffalo Philharmonic Bass Section in 1993. He has played with the St. Louis Symphony (tour of Japan), Florida West Coast Symphony (Principal), Virginia Symphony (Asst. Principal), Spoleto Festival in Italy, and the Chautauqua Symphony. Mike is a certified USSF soccer coach. Other interests include playing electric bass, running, weight lifting and mastering the viola.
