SAIM AKCIL

Saim Akcil graduated as a violinist from the Istanbul Conservatory and the Hochschule fuer Musik in Cologne, Germany. His teachers include Andre Gertler, Max Rostal and Tibor Varga. He has worked in Rome, Venice, Cologne and Milan as leader and soloist. He has also performed with the Istanbul State Opera Orchestra, the Suedwest-deutsche Philharmonic, the Frysk-Orkester in Leeuwarden, Holland and The List-Glenn Festival Orchestra, Los Angeles (conducting the Shostakovich's concerto for piano and trumpet with soloists Lily Popova and Nayden Todorov). Saim Akcil received his training as a conductor from Professor Vlasinko, the chief conductor of Kiev`s State Music Academy and Opera, Ukraine. Upon completion of his training, Mr.Akcil founded the Black Sea Chamber Orchestra. He is also the conductor of the Borusan Chamber Orchestra in Istanbul. Saim Akcil became a professor in 1988 and is currently the Head of the String Department at the Istanbul State Conservatory.
