Bo
The
Bo is the Chinese Cymbal. It is normally made of copper. During
the Song Dynasty (960-1127), it was incorporated into the Wind
and Percussion Ensemble for the Emperor. During Ming (1368-1644)
and Qing (1644-1911) Dynasties, it was used in the Chinese opera.
In Modern China, it is a vital percussion instrument in the
Chinese Orchestra. It can produce a variety of sounds by hitting
the two pieces at each other in many different ways. Rubbing the
two pieces with each other produces the sound of wind. This
effect is used in orchestral works like Fisherman's Song of
the East China Sea.
