Trumpet
The first trumpet was
an animal horn or a couch shell used by prehistoric man as a
signal . Developing in parallel with horns, trumpets became metal
and by the 15th century had grown a tuning slide. Trumpets formed
part of the very earlist orchestras. Their first sonatas
apperared in 1638; the first concertos in 1665.
In 1796, Anton
Weidinger added keys to allow chromatic playing and the first
valve trumpet was built about 1816. This is virtually the design
of today's orchestra trumpet. Traditionally, trumpets and drums
were almost inseperable until erll into the 19th century.
