THE JOHNSON FAMILY REUNION - JULY 4-6, 1997. This bi-annual reunion took place on the Fourth of July weekend in Jackson, Mississippi, at the Courtyard by Marriot near North Park Mall. This included the relatives and descendants of the children of Joseph Gilbert JOHNSON, Jr. and Edmonia Malisse MATHEWS JOHNSON. Children: John Edward (m. Hettie May LONG), William Phillip (m. William and Minnie JOHNSON lived for many years in the Glenmora, Louisiana area, and Lee and Sarah JOHNSON were also inhabitants of Louisiana. Children and relatives of these families continue to live in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, as well as several other states. Representatives from the families of John and Hettie JOHNSON, William and Minnie JOHNSON, and Lee and Sarah JOHNSON were in attendance.

A special Memorial Service was held in honor of the memory of Fred Gilbert JOHNSON, son of John Edward JOHNSON, who passed away on May 6, 1997. On the Fourth, a special Patriotic Celebration and Salute took place, honoring all members of the Johnson Family who served in the military service. A Patriotic Songfest followed. The reunion featured dinners, games, story-telling, video presentations, musical entertainment, and an arts and crafts exhibit. A reunion recipe book "Recipes from Sweet Yesterday - The Johnson Family Cooks" was compiled and created by Ann Johnson Donovan and Dot Johnson Laseter. Copies were distributed to all in attendance.
