HI THERE!
Take your time to read through my life so far...and it's very long... My humble beginnings...

I entered this universe in the form of a cute little baby boy *hee* at 10.35am at Alexandra Hospital on 14 October 1975. Little did I know that that very date would cause me a lot of misery (well..perhaps...three more only...) That cute baby boy who was the youngest of five grew up a few years later into this little BRAT you see here on the right. My mom says I was very naughty as a child (hey cmon! we are all naughty at some point in our lives!). Faint memories of my early childhood days included going to GAYWORLD (err..the one at Kallang har...), enjoying old horror movies like PONTIANAK and playing all the arcade games. My father was a foreman aboard a ship during that time and my three sisters, brother, mother and me used to miss him whenever he was away at sea. I did manage to get a ride on the ship he was working on, called SMIT MONSOON: I'll see if i can dig up photos of that fantastic experience and put it up here. But he has since then quit his foreman job and opened up a foodstall of his own (with our help of course).
First three years of primary school

I did my first three years of primary school at the now defunct Delta Circus Primary School, now home to the Nanyang Polytechnic Tiong Bahru branch. Those were the days when if you did not bring your toothbrush to school the teacher would have you stand by a corner similarly with a few others and have you brush your teeth with your own fingers...gee..gross...I still do not believe I actually did that! Another favourite pastime was playing "zero-point", if you guys still remember what that game is. One could see the whole of the basketball court scattered with girls AND guys playing this simple physical game of jumping over a rope made of rubber bands tied together. I used to ace that game...

Next three years of primary school

I spent the next three years at Clementi Town Primary School. I remember making my first 'impact' on my schoolmates when braving the chance to tell an impromptu story to the rest during school assembly one day...I told them about this Dracula dream I had (the only words I could remember clearly were..."I open I open I open...aiyah....) that seemed to tickle everyone and I got teased about it months after that. Maybe it was the way I presented it to them, I guess...since primary schoolers don't really think about content...*hee*. That school was where my practical music experiences began. I joined the percussion ensemble and the recorder group and made lots of music which I really liked. A few years later I actually came back to CTPS and played the flute at one of their Teachers' Day concerts...

Some aspects of life in secondary school

Ah...reached Gan Eng Seng Secondary School. My intake had already included girls, so I kind of missed the chance to be in an all boys school, which my parents and sisters had wanted me to go (so I could stay away from all the girls..*hee*). The building was then only a few years old, located at Spottiswoode Park Road and just next to the Malaysian Railway lines. We could hear the trains go a-screeching whenever one comes or leaves...in between lessons. All the teachers there were fantastic (though most of them are not there already) - too many of them to mention here. Had my fair share of good and bad memories there...teenage ups and downs..you know...that kind of thing. Particularly memorable was me finishing among the top fifteen in the annual cross-country championships in my upper secondary school days...I wonder if I still have the stamina to do that. My last two years in Gan Eng Seng were great. Our class of 27 guys and 3 girls, most of them the studious type *hee* actually won second place in an inter-class choir competition - we sang Sailing and had a mock sail and a piece of cloth simulating the sea and I gave an introduction to the song on my flute. Other interesting stuff I did was for the school magazine...I was in the editorial committee.

Life at National Junior College

National Junior College changed my life considerably. I remember making a fool out of myself in front of my orientation mates *hee* and told myself that would be the first and last time I would do such a thing (although I enjoyed it thoroughly). There were lectures in which you always fall asleep, tutorials which you could actually skip (no I did not!), mass PE lessons in which you could do aerobics Singapore style *hee* (hey I actually learnt how to dance properly), chemistry laboratory sessions where you could mix around with the chemicals and concoct some weird-looking drink, biology laboratory sessions where you could actually cut up a rabbit and see what's wriggling on the inside...to put it very bluntly. I enjoyed all those...but of particular to me was the experience of playing the national and college anthems with the band every morning assembly every school day . I know some of you guys (NJCSB) may have hated this..*hee* but it was fun having to reach school by 0715hrs and bringing down your instrument to the quadrangle to warm up (gee....now I am going to receive TONS of mail from you guys in retaliance to this...). And gee...I miss the old building...the new one is good... but kinda confusing when you try to get from one floor to the other...

National Service

My service lasted 2 years and 4 months thanks to a silver NAPFA award. I was sent to Nee Soon Camp 3rd Brigade Training School to do my Basic Military Training, for about 8 weeks only. I was very surprised to have been sent for a driver's course after BMT. I graduated from the School of Transport as a Transport Supervisor with SAF class 3 and 4 months thereafter, and spent the rest of my service in three units - 6 Division, 5th Singapore Infantry Brigade and 30th Singapore Combat Engineers in the transport line. Gee...I wish i could tell you more about my army experiences but I guess I can't...see...MINDEF personnel knocking on my door already...*hee*. I ORDed on 24th May 1996...finally. Back to my front page
