A founding member of the critically acclaimed Artaria String Quartet since 1986, violinist Nancy Oliveros performs at renowned venues in New York, Boston, Atlanta, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Chicago, and throughout the United States and Europe. She is a multi-year recipient of numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Chamber Music America, the Heartland Fund and others for performance and educational outreach projects. She has appeared with members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Juilliard and Cleveland Quartets, and performed in Boston with the Pops "Cameo", Ballet, Opera and Pro Arte Chamber Orchestras. She was for several summers an Artist/Teacher in Residence at the Tanglewood Institute and co-directs Stringwood, a unique chamber music program in residence at the Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center in Lanesboro, Minnesota. Nancy was on the artist faculty of the Greater Boston Youth Symphony for many years before moving to the Midwest and continues to work with youth orchestras in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. Prior to forming Artaria, she was awarded fellowships to Maine's prestigious Kneisel Hall, the Florida Festival, Brevard, and the Aspen Music Festival. Nancy graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees and was a teaching assistant at The Florida State University, studying with Gerardo Ribeiro and Karen Clarke, and received a Director's Award from Boston University for post-graduate violin and chamber music studies with Roman Totenberg, Eugene Lehner, Raphael Hillyer, and the Muir Quartet. Nancy resides with her husband, Ray shows, and their two children in Saint Paul, Minnesota where, in addition to teaching at Carleton College, she maintains an active violin and chamber music studio.
