Sound of Salzburg (Or something like that...)

And so I went to Salzburg, just after coming from Hallstatt. Everything about this small Austria city is as advertised, Touristy, small, and definitely worth the trip. There are plenty of youth hostels in this city, since Salzburg is one of Austria biggest tourist traps. I spent three days in this area, and enjoyed every bit of it. From walking up the mountain to the Fortress to spending a whole day on the "Sound of Music" Tour. Yeah, so I did do the touristy things, but why not.... I did get some great shots of this area, and had plenty of time to waste my film and get drunk in the beergardens. I even had a chance to go to a university party in Salzburg and had a great time speaking german and having fun.

In order to make this page just a bit different, I have decided to expain all of the pics below briefly.

Pic 1 is the Fortress overlooking Salzburg, where the Archbishop went in case of being ambushed by angry mobs. It also was the protection for the whole area. Included inside the fortress is the Hohensalzburg Castle, which was built in the 11th Century.

Pic 2 is the birth house of W.A. Mozart. I recommend going through both this and his living house, they are great museums.

Pic 3 is the Town Hall of St. Gilgen, one of the stops on the "Sound of Music" tour, and a really neat, small Austrian town. Try some of the Wuerstel from one of the vendors on the street.

Pic 4 is a great view of the city from the road leading up to the fortress. In the front is the Salzburg Cathedral.

Pic 5 is Hellbrunn Palace, which was built by Bishop Marcus Sitticus, who was the lord of the area. This view is from a trail that leads to the Folk Museum, and shows the gradens and palace. Not shown are the trick fountains, which were installed by the bishop to amuse himself and embarass his guests.

Pic 6 is theback side of the "von Trapp" house from the "Sound of Music." It is now owned by a bunch of people (from some university or business) that won't allow people on their property. Oh Well...it's still a nice view.
