John Elmore Winbourne DuBois (1841-1910)

John "Jack" Elmore Winbourne DuBois, son of John and Louisa (Williams) DuBois, was born in Greensboro, Alabama, on October 8, 1841. He received his education in the school at Greensboro and in the private school of Professor Tutwiler in Green Spring.

At the age of 19, Jack volunteered his services to the cause of the Confederacy as a Sergeant in Company C, 36th Alabama Infantry Regiment which had been organized at Mount Vernon Arsenal on May 12, 1862. From August 1862 until April 1863, the regiment was stationed at Mobile.
