The DuBois Manufacturing Company also undertook to mill lumber and sell coal, among other enterprises. During the 1870's and 1880s, Jack and Joe also conducted the cotton gin business in various locations, including Demopolis, Mobile, Eutaw, Greensboro, and outside the State of Alabama. |

By 1880, Jack and Rebecca were living in Tuscaloosa and their family had grown to include two children; a third child did not live past early childhood. Living in the household with the DuBois family that year were Jack's brother, Joseph C. DuBois, and seven others who were probably employees of the DuBois Manufacturing Company. Jack, Joseph, and Rebecca sold their shares of the company in 1883. |
