Meredosia-Chambersburg Journal-Courier Story

By Senior Trumpet Player Kala Freesen

This page is for an annual feature the Journal-Courier does on all the area Marching Bands. It goes into print October 5th this year.

The Meredosia-Chambersburg Marching Band is off to another great start under the direction or Mr. Brian Woods. Even though the school year is just beginning, the Marching Indians have already marched three shows, Beardstown’s parade, and their own homecoming parade. The Marching Indians worked hard during the first ever summer marching band camp in Meredosia. The camp was an effort to prepare both the Tornadoes of Griggsville-Perry and the Indians of Meredosia-Chambersburg to march co-op for the field shows. This is the second year that Meredosia has had a band on the field. The program consists of: Durango, featuring Senior, Kala Freesen on solo trumpet, and Kala Freesen, Michael Womble, and Brandy Hinners on the trumpet trio, All Night Long, featuring Senior Corey Bowman on Tuba, and closing America the Beautiful. As for street marching, the Indians are on their own. The 2001 marching band will have marched a total of four parades by the end of the season. They march 8th grade through senior, which totals thirty-seven members. The bands at Meredosia-Chambersburg High School are sure to keep reaching new heights with fourth year music director, Brian Woods. This years’ band is part of a growing musical tradition at MCHS. Chances are if you hear good music in the area, a Meredosia band member is not far away. Be sure to listen for them, it will be a musical experience you won’t soon forget!
