1998 brings about change for the Royal Alliance. Brand new uniforms and a trip to the WSMBC state championship competition highlight this year. The music to suit the occasion comes from the soundtrack to the movie "Braveheart". The music follows the life of Scottish folk hero William Wallace in his attempt to free Scotland from the rule of the English and to avenge the death of his bride. Ominous chords from the low brass and woodwinds begin the show as tension builds and finally explodes, at the rate of 190 beats per minute. Power and finesse carry the Royal Alliance through the battles of Scottish rebels. "For the Love of a Princess", the ballad, slows things down and really expresses the musicality of the Royal Alliance. This also gives the colorguard a chance to show of their grace as they lift and carry the lost love of William Wallace off the field. The drum solo highlights the always spectacular percussion section. After a woodwind feature that will get your toes tapping, the band builds to a powerful push delighting fans and judges alike. As quickly as it all came together, the show dissipates to a trumpet and colorguard soloist, and finally...to nothing.
