The Renfrew
Pony Club was founded in 1964 and has operated at the Fraser Farm in
Renfrew Ontario since that time. The first district Commissioner for the
club was Mr. Don Aikenhead. Initially the membership was approximately
25 riders with 15 horses. Five of the horses were purchased on a
"co-op" basis by selling shares to members. There has been a
fluctuation over the years in the membership numbers but the strong
commitment to the local horse community has proven that the RPC is here
to stay.
For many years
the Renfrew Pony club was very active and put on musical rides for the
local fairs. More recently the RPC has hosted the riding portion of the
local and regional Tetrathon and Renfrew Pony Club is continuing to
develop
young riders and horses by hosting events and horse shows such as the RENFREW HORSE TRIALS.
Currently there are 23 members. Most own their own horses.
The Renfrew Pony Club instructor Laura Kelland-May has been teaching at the RPC for the past 3 years. In addition to encouraging the members to enjoy safe, correct, and fun horsemanship she organizes other shows in the local area.
