Macon County VietNow collected and delivered Valentine's Day Cards to the
Danville VA Medical Center. Before it was over the count rose to 21,000 cards.
On behalf of the Veterans at Danville Va hospital, Macon Conty VietNow
thanks everyone who participated by making, collecting, delivering
or distributing the valentines to the veterans.
We especially thank Joan Sullivan (JoJo the Clown), Ruth Portwood,
and Nancy Sprau. They delivered the first 2,500 valentines, along with
soda and hugs to several wards at the hospital on February 6th.
We received valentines from children age two up to adults in a group home
age 92! We (and the hospital staff) were overwhelmed by the response.
We appreciate and thank those media outlets which provide free publicity
for the Valentines For Veterans drive.
The staff a huge bulletin board with valentines, and many veterans posted
the valentines in their rooms. February 11-17 was "National Salute To
Hospitalized Veterans Week" and the veterans in Danville VA Hospital we
not forgotten. The hospital recieved over 21,000.
Ann Landers reported that nearly 750,00 valentines were delivered to
VA hospitals nationwide last year (2000) through the Valentines for
Veterans Program. If the local response is any indication, t should be
over a million valentines this year.
Macon County VietNow appreciates the response from Central Illinois,
and hopes to do even better next year.
