Inside of a large helicopter.  A Bell/Agusta AB139—everything you would need can be found here  http://www.bellagusta.com/html/theAircraft/ab_139/techSpecs.html   There are two men piloting it, and the cabin is set up to have eight chairs in it, and all eight have a man sitting in them.  All of the men range from 25 to 30, and are wearing grey suits and ties.  All of the men are on cell phones but one, the DIRECTOR.  He is in his early 40’s somewhat overweight, but a large man anyway.  He has a window seat and looks down on the city of Venice Italy.  It is just in the afternoon

 

DIRECTOR:                                           VENICE.  CHRIST, WHAT DID HE DO HERE?

The helicopter is landing in a small grassy plot of land that is very close to the boat dock that is portrayed in the first few pictures on this site:  http://www.tonynuccio.com/europe/photographs/italy/venice/venice.htm#p  Note the city in the background.  The boat dock doesn’t have to be in this shot, but know that it is there, and will show up in future shots.  The Director is stepping out of the copter with his head down.  The other men are following, holding their cell phones.  Another man wearing more casual and lightly colored attire is meeting him at the door.  We’ll call this man #1.  He is holding a map  out for the director to see.

 

#1:                                                           HELLO, SIR.  THIS IS A MAP OUTLINING THE TRAIL OF THE FIREFIGHT.  IN ALL IT WAS CONTAINED WITHIN ABOUT THREE BLOCKS.

A view over the Director’s shoulder as he looks at #1’s map as #1 continues to hold it out for him.  The map has a line coming from where the map runs off the paper, and it trails into the Grand Canal from the South and then has a sudden turn to the North into some smaller channels.  I have this as a .bmp and will provide it to the artist.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           ONLY THREE BLOCKS?  THANK YOU, JESUS.  HOW MANY DEAD?

 

#1:                                                           FROM WHAT WE’VE GATHERED SO FAR, IT LOOKS LIKE AGENT 23 KILLED ABOUT A DOZEN.

The Director, #1, and the other seven men are walking onto the gondola dock, there is a black speed boat waiting for them at the end of the dock.  The Director is pulling his jacket off.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           GOOD LORD, IT’S HOT HERE!

 

#1:                                                           YEAH, BUT IT’S A WET HEAT.  VENICE HAS AN UNDERSTANDABLE HUMIDITY PROBLEM.  AND WE’RE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER…

The Director, #1, and the other seven men are all on the black boat as it speeds toward the city. The director’s jacket is gone.  It’s in the boat, but we don’t have to establish that fact.  The front of the boat is like your standard speed boat with the seating inset into the deck.  This WILL be used later.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           AGENT 23 KILLED A DOZEN WHAT?  CHINESE, MIDDLE EASTERNERS?  DO WE KNOW?

Everyone still on the boat.  The boat is now entering the city via the Grand Canal.  Here is a good pic  http://www.photomann.com/italy/venice/ven63z.jpg  The boats with motors are not allowed to leave wakes here, so all low speed.

 

#1:                                                           THE DEAD WE FOUND SO FAR REPRESENT SOME MILITANT BALTIC FACTIONS AND EX-KGB.

The black boat is pulling into a narrow back street.  The Director is taking in the sights as #1 speaks to him.

 

#1:                                                           HE'S , AH, ON A YACHT IN THE ADRIATIC WITH A GERMAN AGENT.

View looking at the Director from behind (or beside, depending on how they are standing together)#1  The Director has a raised eyebrow and a concerned look.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           FEMALE GERMAN AGENT?

 

#1:                                                           YES, SIR.

The Director is reaching to one of the other agents, giving a soft backhand to his shoulder.  The agent is looking at the Director with raised eyebrows or some other way to indicate that he is paying attention, even though he holds his cell phone to his ear.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           THERE'S ANOTHER ONE WITH THE CLAP.  YOU'LL NEED TO NOTIFY HER CONSULATE.  THESE IDIOTS KNOW WHAT 23 HAD FOR LUNCH, BUT CAN'T SEEM TO KEEP TRACK OF HIS  STD'S!

DIRECTOR:                                           HAVE WE CONTACTED THE CHIEF OF POLICE, OR HEAD CONSTABLE OR WHATEVER THE HELL THEY HAVE OVER HERE?

 

#1:                                                           IT’S THE CHIEF, AND YES, WE’VE ESTABLISHED JURISDICTION.

Larger panel.  Still in the narrow channels, at an intersection.  There are two more black boats here.  On one boat there is another agent in a suit with a cell phone  he is #2, and on the other boat there are men in tee shirts pulling a body from the water.  A couple of men in SCUBA are at the surface helping  The body is wearing black, and has a shoulder holster and black stripes under his eyes.  Military haircut.  The boat pulling the body out of the water has several filled body bags stacked somewhere on it.  The Director’s boat is in the foreground,  the director and #1 talking.  A third boat, a high tech sporty thing is tied to #2’s black boat.  Another man in a white tee shirt is bagging up another body that can’t be seen in this angle.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           HOW MANY MEN WE GOT IN THE WATER?

 

#1:                                                           FIFTEEN RIGHT NOW.  THE WATER'S PRETTY MURKY, SO THEY HAVE DIGITAL ECHO IMAGERS.

A closer view of the SCUBA divers helping get the body out of the water.  Another diver is coming up with another body.  The Director’s boat is pulling close to the black boat with a few agents in it.

 

#1:                                                           WE HAVE ALMOST ALL OF THE BODIES, SO THEY SHOULD BE COMING OUT SOON.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           KEEP THEM THERE.  I WANT EVERY SUSPICIOUS ITEM BROUGHT UP AND CATALOGUED.

The director’s boat is pulling next to #2’s boat.  The Director is looking at the shiny high tech boat.  The man in a tee shirt is just zipping up the body bag over a charred and mutilated head of a large man-also military haircut.  #2 is listening to the Director holding his cell phone against his chest as if to mute the mouthpiece.

 

#2:                                                           YOU WITH MAINTENANCE?

 

DIRECTOR:                                           YES WE ARE.  WHAT’S UP HERE?

#2:                                                           THIS WAS EX-KGB AGENT, SERGEI RENJIKIN--THE RUSSIANS CALLED HIM THE BEAR'S CLAW.  CARRIED TWO MAC-10’S LIKE JOHN WOO.  23 STUCK A SIGNAL FLARE IN RENJIKIN’S MOUTH AND IGNITED IT.

Looking at #2, he is snickering as he speaks.

 

#2:                                                           REPORTS SAY HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT BEING A 'HOT HEAD'(SNICKER)

Looking at the Director.  He is looking at #2 sternly.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           SOMETHING FUNNY ABOUT THAT, AGENT?

Back to looking at #2.  He has lost his sense of humor.

 

#2:                                                           N-NO.  I'M SORRY, SIR.

#1, #2, and the Director are looking to the direction of the boat that is pulling up bodies.  There is a loud voice from off panel.

 

(OP)                                                        CIVILIAN!

The Director is talking to where the body boat is.  He looks very concerned

 

DIRECTOR:                                           WHAT DO YOU GOT, AGENT?

Looking to the surface of the water, another SCUBA diver is holding up the body of a man in his early 20’s.  Two small entry wounds in his face.  Wearing the standard shirt with  horizontal stripes of a gondolier.

 

SCUBA DIVER:                                    THERE WAS A GONDOLA FLOATING NEARBY.  MUST HAVE BEEN HIS.  TWO TO THE HEAD.  LOOKS LIKE NINE MIL.  MUST HAVE COME FROM RENJIKIN'S MAC 10'S.

Looking at the Director’s face.  Is noticeably upset.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           DAMN.

The Director is motioning to the dead gondolier while talking to #2.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           HERE YOU GO AGENT.  YOU THINK 23'S LITTLE JOKE WAS FUNNY TO THIS KID?  WHAT IS HE--TWENTY FIVE YEARS OLD?  OUT HERE IN THIS ANCIENT PLACE PUSHING PEOPLE AROUND IN HIS LITTLE BOAT--YOU THINK HE WAS ONE OF THOSE WHO SANG?

The director continues to rant while looking again to where the body is.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           HE COULD GIVE TWO SHITS LESS ABOUT THE INFORMATION IN 23'S WATCH.  OR ABOUT THE OLD ZEALOT OF DEAD POLITICS--A RUSSIAN COMMIE WIELDING AN AMERICAN SUBMACHINE GUN--WHO WOULD KILL HIM.  HE WORKED HERE WATCHING PEOPLE FALL IN LOVE FLOATING IN SHIT WATER, AND DIED FOR PLANS TO A MISSILE FUEL THAT WILL NEVER BE SUCCESSFULLY MANUFACTURED.

Everyone is looking at the Director, taken aback by his rant.  The Director’s face stuck in a sneer.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           AW, SCREW IT.

#1 is moving closer to the Director to speak to him. 

 

#1:                                                           SOME WOULD SAY ONE CIVILIAN IS AN ACCEPTABLE CASUALTY RATE, SIR.

The Director retaining his sneer as he speaks with #1.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           HA.  WELL, SOME PEOPLE LIKE COPULATING WITH SHEEP, BUT I'M SURE NOT GOING TO CITE ANYTHING THEY HAVE TO SAY.  "ACCEPTABLE CASUALTIES," "NEEDS OF THE MANY,"  THESE ARE PHRASES USED BY A FLAWED AND SLOPPY SECURITY SYSTEM.

The Director losing his sneer, and taking up an expression of exhaustion.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           BUT, WE’RE NOT SECURITY, ARE WE?  WE’RE MAINTENANCE.  SPEAKING OF WHICH, THAT'S OUR JOB--LET'S GET IT OVER WITH.

The Director is speaking to the men on his boat.  They are listening attentively.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           THIS ONE IS PRETTY CUT AND DRIED, GUYS.  HAVE THE BODIES OF THE ENEMY TAKEN TO RESEARCH, GET PR ON THE HORN TO ARRANGE THE USUAL COVER STORY FOR THE MEDIA.   SET UP ACCOUNTING TO TAKE CARE OF  THOSE WHO HAVE HAD PROPERTY DAMAGE, AND TO FIND THIS POOR KID'S FAMILY AND GET THEM ON FULL COMPENSATION BENEFITS.

One of the 7 agents is holding his phone in the air just to call the Director’s attention to it.  We’ll call him #3.

 

#3:                                                           THE BAUER HOTEL IS ON THE PHONE.  THEY WANT TO KNOW WHO’S PAYING THE BILL.

The Director isn’t looking at the agent, he is looking up at the scenery head lost in thought.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           AGENT 23 STAYED AT THE BAUER?  GREAT!  HOW MUCH IS THAT GOING TO COST?

Back to #3.  He has the phone to his ear.  His eyebrows furrowed as if he doesn’t understand.

 

#3:                                                           THEY SAY ESTIMATES START AT ALMOST TEN MILLION EUROS.

The Director’s face is in shock.  He’s not the type of man who opens his mouth with surprise, but even without the gaping mouth, we can tell that he is speechless.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           TEN WHAT???

 

#3:           Ah.  Something about a Bentley in the main lobby and four dead men with motorcycles in an elevator shaft.

The Director is slapping himself on the forehead with an expression of disbelief on his face.

 

SFX:                                                       SLAP!

The director is now sitting down in the seating at the front of the boat.  He seems to be in shock.

 

DIRECTOR:                                           THIS IS WHY MY PREDECESSOR TURNED TO CRIME…
