An Email I Wrote After Tori's 11-30-98 Concert

It's almost 2:30 am and I just got home from seeing Tori Amos at the Murat Centre in Indianapolis with one of my best friends, Crystal. It was incredible to say the least!!

Tori's music is always so empowering, I just feel rejuvinated! Too bad I need to go to sleep so I can get up in the morning and go to work...

This is the first tour that Tori had where she had a band. (They called it the "plugged" tour) The drummer was awesome! The only person on that stage having a better time than him was Tori! He had a super-cool, funk-olisious groove thang goin' on! Bein' a drummer, I always pay special attention to drummers... And after payin' special attention to him, I think I'm in LUV~~

For those of you who know Tori's music, here's what she played: girl, precious things, tear in you hand, marianne, talula, past the mission, waitress, cruel, raspberry swirl, northern lad, pandora's aquarium, and several "b-sides" including flying dutchman.
(From a setlist found later, she played: Precious Things * Tear In Your Hand * Hotel * Past The Mission * Girl * Mary * Marianne (solo) * Etienne (solo) * Flying Dutchman (solo) * Northern Lad * Cruel * Space Dog * Waitress * Encore 1: Talula * Raspberry Swirl * Encore 2: When Sonny Gets Blue (solo, which I remember was just beautiful) * Famous Blue Raincoat (solo) * Pandora's Aquarium.)

Let's see...what to say...
Most of these songs were played WITH the band, so they really rocked! And Cruel and Raspberry Swirl (which are 2 of my 5 favorite songs from the new CD) rock on the CD, but in concert, hold on to your hats kiddies!!! Waitress, which has lots of energy in it anyway, exploded! But the integrity of the songs was not given up because of the energy. Girl, Marianne, Northern Lad, and especially Tear in your Hand were achingly incredible!

If I could only see one artist in concert for the rest of my life, it would probably be Tori. (Although I love music, so that idea *does* horrify me...)

Tori didn't chat as much between songs as she did at the concert I saw on her last tour, but we got more music out of the deal, so it all worked out.

I don't have all kinds of interesting stories like I did when I went to see the "family values" tour w/Korn, but this concert was awesome, and you're just gonna have to take my word on that. Better yet, next time she's touring, find out yourself!!! I really can't describe it in words, it's really something you have to experience yourself.

Sleepily,
Vik
