To the people of Mexico, the United States, and the world:
To the national and international press:
To those struggling for liberty, justice, democracy, and human rights in Mexico, the United States, and the world:
The Clandestine Command "Division of the North" (Villista National Liberation Front) addresses itself to you to say the following:
First: We had nothing to do with the recent fires in Southern California: Those that were acts of arson clearly violated our Battle Guidelines: as such, if "CCDN" or "FVLN" were left at the sites of arson, they were forgeries designed to discredit the CCDN and FVLN. These arsons, if they were politically motivated acts of war, were war crimes as defined by the Geneva Convention: they clearly fall within out definition of terrorism, against which we fight.
Second: We do not believe that the Earth Liberation Front was in any way responsible for these fires, since, although they have claimed responsibility for arsons, those arsons did not fall under the definition of war crimes of the Geneva Convention, as did these arsons; further, the environmental damage caused by these fires would be antithetical to the purposes of the Earth Liberation Front. We call upon the Earth Liberation Front to join with us in denouncing any arsons that may have caused these fires as acts of terrorism.
Third: There may have been political motivations behind these fires: On the one hand, there was a report of a plan by al-Qaeda to set such fires. Please read the article about this alleged plot, as well as a rebuttal of this article.
There also was an article about a public appearance by President George W. Bush during two fires in Oregon, during which he advocated renewed logging in the National Forests of the United States as a way of reducing the fuel that fires might ignite. President Bush appeared in Riverside and San Bernardino, Southern California, shortly before the fires started there.
Also: we have been predicting that the Administration of President Bush would need a terrorist incident comparable to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in order to justify the passage of further repressive legislation, such as the "Domestic Security Enhancement Act:" the acts of arson behind some of these fires seem to us to have met this condition. We caution President Bush against allowing these fires to consume the Constitution and Bill of Rights of the United States of America: our Active Service Units stand by to help the people under the present jurisdiction of the United States of America defend their Constitutional order, especially as it forms the prototype of progressive constitutional governments the world over, including in the Mexican United States. We will not stand by idly if President Bush foolishly chooses to make this another "Reichstag Fire," as he did with the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
That is all for now.
Liberty! Justice! Democracy! Human Rights!
