We read, with increasing alarm, of the reports of US- sponsored military coup in Haiti, which happened so soon after the US interference with the Salvadoran elections: we must bear in mind that, in 1984, the US Federal Emergency Management Agency prepared to detain 100,000 US Citizens and immigrants in preparation for its planned invasion of El Salvador: it would seem that the US Government concluded that it couldn’t detain so many people without suspending the US Constitution. Is the US Government planning such a suspension now? We urge US human rights organisations to vigourously oppose the US usurpation of democracy in Haiti El Salvador, Venezuela, and the US, and to make preparations in case the US Constitution is suspended. For our part, we oppose the suspension of the US Constitution, including in Aztlan: our vision is of a lawful accession of Aztlan to a future Mexican Constitution which meets US and international standards of the protection of human rights.
