Edea is the sorceress whom at first seems to be the enemy in the heroes epic journey. She takes over Deling City and when the heroes try to fight her, Squall is struck down by a mighty Ice Lance from Edea's own hand. She then runs with her knight Seifer and takes over Galbadia Garden and uses her troops to invade Fishermans Horizon and Balamb.

But when out heroes finally manage to defeat her they discover she is none other than 'Matron' The lady who cared for them as children. She took the orphans in and raised them as her own to believe in SeeD and reveals that Ultimicea had tried to turn her against her own SeeD and forced her to be a puppet in Ultimicea's game. She goes on to join the party as they search for a cure for Rinoa in the lost city of Eshar and to seek out and stop Ultimicea reaching Sorceress Adel in her prision on the Lunar Base.
