A MAGNIFICENT AND TRULY MISSED WRITER
A MAGNIFICENT AND TRULY MISSED WRITER

When Sassy asked me to write this, it seemed fitting somehow it is Memorial Day.

I didn’t know Jean Williams. I could have walked by her on the street and never have recognized her. But despite that, I knew Jean Williams, for Jean was a Writer. And there are certain things inherent in writers….

There is this need, a drive if you will, in a writer which compels them -- often times burning the candle at both ends -- to satisfy that endless creative demon, along with family, friends, home and work. And I’m sure Jean was no exception to this. That writing is a lonely…. hobby (or way of life, in some cases!) We sit off by ourselves at a keyboard or with a pen and are compelled to describe what we see in our heads in a way others can understand, using the best words we can to capture the reader. And then we send out those words, never knowing who reads them, or whose life they may touch or change.

Well, in my humble opinion, Jean always managed to capture the right words. She stirred the readers' emotions, captured our hearts, and took us away to that magical realm where the characters we love so well resides. She brought them to life in living, breathing color and we laughed right along with Lil’ Ez and his ‘baff’ in Second Childhood or cried out loud for Ezra’s anguish in Abandoned.

Jean’s wonderful ability still inspires those of us who write to reach for new heights. She inspires the new struggling writer to put down those first words, and she still continues to touch our lives with her wonderful legacy of stories.

Someone once said:

‘I burn my candle at both ends.

It will not last the night.

But oh, my foes, and oh, my friends,

It made such a lovely light.’

Jean’s candle did not last the night, but she still remains that lovely light. This is our tribute to this wonderful writer whom we all miss.

Until I finish getting the longer stories ready for posting they will be linked to Jean's original site. Hopefully her stories will bring pleasure to readers for a long time to come.
