12AU7 / 12AU7A: The common USA version of this tube. |
This tube is used allot in the preamplifier stages of high fi audio equipment, amps, PA and broadcast equipment. The 12au7 has less gain than a 12ax7 or a 12at7,about 20% of a 12ax7 being 100%.These tubes were used in many different types of gear.So there still not to hard to find. But they are getting close to the hard to get list. |
ECC82: This is the European version of the 12AU7, and is identical to it. The brands in demand are Telefunken, Amperex, and Mullard. Telefunken tubes have a diamond shape molded into the bottom of the glass. Amperex and Mullard have tiny date codes etched in the glass near the bottom of the tube. The most popular Amperex are the Holland made Bugle Boy series, with the tiny cartoon tube blowing a bugle on the label.Later they went to a white print saying Amperex, and then to orange print with the orange globe. The earlier Mullard tubes had the word "Mullard" inside of a shield logo, later versions said "IEC Mullard". |
E80CC: This is a industrial type 6085.This tube does have a higher gain the the origanal 12au7. These are out of production, rare, and getting very hard to find. |
