The Bassment - December 22nd 2003 written by Goblin

So I stood in the rain waiting for the bus, wondering why car passengers kept staring at me, I mean I was dressed in green tights and long black coat, I couldn't understand. The man on the bus opposite me didn't approve either, I hopped off the bus and hot footed it round to The Bassment; the location for the night's festivities; namely Vinyl Beats no.1 groupie's ( or so she proclaimed in a takeaway on camera once) birthday party.
I got inside and noticed that; for a supposedly fancy dress night most people were woefully underdressed and I was woefully overdressed as Robin from Batman and Robin. Some people laughed, others just stared. I went straight to the bar. Gant joins me muttering something about Pete's costume. I turn and see Pete in a luminous pink Sgt. Pepper uniform; maybe I wasn't the only tit there then. A few swift pints of snakebite later and the first band were playing. After a relatively impressive set, and by relatively impressive, I mean....well. Yes.
Then they were up. The titans of rock and roll that are Vinyl Beat. Melia called me up and asked me to dance like this *motions some kind of monkey dance* when he played the Batman theme. Unfortunately I had to turn this kind offer down and they started playing. They played their usual set, beginning with Ever Changing Eyes, and later leading to some songs chosen specifically for the gig, such as "Maria" and the old classic "Happy Birthday". They did draw much more of a crows than the other band, but I guess the other band didn't have all their mates there to be persuaded to stand up. (I bet that doesn't get into the final edit :) ). Towards the end some drunk requested Back in the USSR and the band decided to take pity upon his poor soul and played it; however it was one song too many for Gant's guitar strap which collapsed under the sheer intensity of the set. Another triumph for the beat!

On a side note though; was it me or didn't they seem as drunk as they normally are when they play? Answers on a postcard please....
