      CULTURE SHOCK
*
Dancing was something I kept secretly as a child, and the style of movement I developed was initially self taught.  One could say that my style of dance came from dancing in small corners of many nightclubs.  At the time, I did not understand just how powerful my movement was, but as it became a comfort zone, I knew exactly what it would come to mean.  The more I would sneak into nightclubs as a teenager, the more relieved I would feel.  It was a spiritual journey that sometimes even scared me, and the more I would free-style, the more energy would RAGE through my body.  The word tired never entered my mind.
About seven years ago I began teaching which opened my soul to another channel.  Being able to share the passion that I felt with music to others was a blessing.  What is taught in a hip hop class, though, is not always understood or excepted.  However, Evanston Athletic Club opened their doors to me, and allowed me to teach whatever my soul spoke.  I am very thankful to have met David Mesirow, and Pat Cunningham, who believed in me and never judged me.
They forever changed my life.

Meeting a woman named Aida Johnson acted as a powerful role model for me and constantly pushed me to achieve goals in life.  Because of her, I began to have more confidence as a teacher.  Becoming a part of Culture Shock Chicago (A pro. Hip hop co. founded by Angie Bunch) grounded me as a person.  Culture Shock allowed me to grow as a performer, dancer, teacher, and choreographer.  Thank you Angie Bunch for giving Chicago and me a chance.
In 1999, I realized I needed to face the RAGE that I once felt as a child, in nightclubs, and throughout my life.  The project began was: R.A.G.E.
THE RHYTHM AND GROOVE EXCHANGE PROJECT.
Mission Statement:

I believe it is important to face your fears, whatever they may be.  You must learn to take whatever you feel that is negative, and exchange it for something positive, and release it in the form of a rhythm.  That's what my classes and performances are all about.  The movement is very powerful, very urban, and will go through your soul.
Keepin' it real to the free-stylers.  Bring knee pads.
Experience Viola's R.A.G.E.  It's a spiritual journey!
