I don't know if I could ever be bored at a VF show, but they were testing my limits the last two years by limiting their sets. I may be hoping too much, but they really do see to be having some kind of renewed spark between them, creative or otherwise, that is fueling the insurgence of different sets recently. Hopefully it is creativity blooming or someone has been showing them what has been written in this little e-newsletter and how badly they want new VF music. I also forgot to mention the song Gordon played by himself for a "movie that has yet to be released" called Fast Horses. They were playing at historic Del Mar Race Track and like to throw in a song from time to time that reflects the time or location they are in. I've seen them play a song called Santa Catalina in honor playing near Catalina Island, This Charming Man when Morrissey was in the house and Marie's the Name of his Latest Flame in honor of Elvis' birthday. Also heard them play a most excellent version of Holly Jolly Christmas at an X-mas show. I'd love to hear what other random songs people have heard them play over the years. Greg Flores SCPGAMEDIA@aol.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hopefull in Seattle -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok... I'm hoping that the 9/25/2004 show in Seattle will be a repeat of what was described in Chicago. I hope the Femmes play those 5 songs IF they REALLY have to...but, play the rest for the fans... ok. It would be a treat after the Portland show that I described earlier. love=solidarity, jesse jesse@bastardrecords.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some Recent VF Reviews and Articles -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is Going Down on My Personal Record by Kara Zuaro / Orange County Weekly http://www.ocweekly.com/ink/04/52/music-zuaro.php The Femmes' appeal is wide by Carol Simmons / North Country Times http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2004/09/01/entertainment/music/9_1_048_38_20.txt Violent Femmes rescue festival from clutches of alt-rock overkill by Rachel Devitt / Seattle Times http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/artsentertainment/2002046971_endfest27.html Teen sax player handles stardom with ease by Robert Fulton / La Jolla Light http://www.lajollalight.com/2004/09/16/n040916teen_sax.html To POST, SUBSCRIBE, or UNSUBSCRIBE send email to: violentfemmeslist@yahoo.com or violentfemmeslist@ameritech.net |
