On June 18 Slash Records/Rhino Entertainment brings back one of the greatest albums of the 1980s, VIOLENT FEMMES, in a deluxe edition two-disc package. Taking the term "deluxe edition" to a new level, this two-disc set boasts 36 tracks, including not only the original 10-song album, but an additional 26 cuts-22 of which are previously unavailable. Liner notes by noted author/journalist Michael Azzerad (Our Band Could Be Your Life) provide insight into the band's history and the making of the record. Disc one offers the original album, plus nine demos, as well as "Ugly" and "Gimme The Car." Live recordings, all from the era of VIOLENT FEMMES' original release, comprise disc two, capturing all the excitement and energy that make a Violent Femmes show such a party. These tracks showcase a band that built its reputation on its frenetic live shows and offer fans the opportunity to discover or remember the magic of early Femmes performances. Especially appealing is the between-song chatter, offering a glimpse into the goup's rapport amongst themselves and with their audiences. All but one of the 15 tracks are previously unavailable ("Special" was released as a flexidisc in Alternative Press magazine). Highlights include a more than six-minute version of "Add it Up," a seven-plus-minute version of "Never Tell," and early performances of songs that would later appear on subsequent Femmes releases. Also included are three songs that never made it to the studio for recording ("Her Television," "How Do You Say Goodbye," and "In Style"), and a radio interview with Michael Feldman (current host of NPR's Whad'Ya Know?). Recorded in July 1982, VIOLENT FEMMES has, over the last 20 years, become a classic party album, discovered and beloved by successive generations. Its continued staying power is evidenced by the fact that VIOLENT FEMMES is the only album ever to go platinum without having ever been in the Billboard Top 200. The record boasts one classic teen angst anthem after another, from the opening, "Blister In The Sun," through "Kiss Off," "Add It Up," and "Prove My Love," to "Gone Daddy Gone." Violent Femmes are Gordon Gano (vocals, guitar), Brian Ritchie(bass), and Victor DeLorenzo (drums). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Advance Order Violent Femmes (Deluxe) at CDNOW ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ www.cdnow.com CD Now has the 2 Disc Re Issue available for Advance Ordering and they list the "expected release date" as JUNE 4, 2002! They also have it on sale for $21.49 (Reg price $24.98). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Summerfest ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello... I'm going to be at Summerfest...driving up from NC...I suspect this will cause a mass migration....Perhaps it could be suggested that if there are any couches and/or basements available up there people could volunteer them for us road weary travelers? :) jesse jesse@bastardrecords.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Victor ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Holy crap! i can't believe Victor is back. I mean like did anybody see this coming or what?? i guess this is good news ... definitely good news that their is tour dates again. But what does this mean as far as the band goes?? Is Guy out? Is Victor going to learn all the music on New Times, Rock, Freak Magnet?? I'm not a drummer but like won't he need more than a snare and the trance for all that stuff?? And where are all those "I Love Victor" people who used to lurk about the list? Doesn't mpdrum or that mike guy have anything to say about all this? TFK thefemmeking@hotmail.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Re-release ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Does anyone know when the 2-disc re-release of the first album will be made. I've tried to look for it, but have not had any luck. SCPGAMEDIA@aol.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Victor ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Milwaukee has got hold of the news that Victor's back. I thought this was sort of a low key announcement about it but they casually slipped this in the Miwaukee Journal Sentinel last week ... Who's Spinning What May 9, 2002 Even though he's back playing with the Violent Femmes, drummer Victor DeLorenzo hasn't been too busy to keep up with new music. He's been enjoying the new Wilco album ("It's absolutely brilliant") and both of the new Tom Waits albums, "Alice" and "Blood Money." He's also a fan of the new Rhino reissue of "American in Paris." This is the 20th anniversary of the Femmes' first release, and on June 18, Slash/Rhino will put out "The Violent Femmes" as a double disc complete with unreleased demos and concert tracks. There also are plans for a tour.
