The Flowers
The vase still stands on the table
though the flowers have wilted and died
Their fragrance has long ceased to be able
to fill her with warmth inside.

At one time the thought of him who gave them
would have filled her heart with cheer.
But the petals have withered and fallen from the stem
confirming her deepest fear.

He left her there all alone
and, like the flowers that now have died,
she feels a dryness in her bone
as her tears have all been cried.

A breeze floats in and stirs the petals
which begin to crack and break apart
and eventually the light breeze settles,
but she still feels it ripping through her heart.
