A Mistress' Response
1
Even if we had all space and time,
Your adoration would be a crime.
Why spend all of eternity
Never taking your gaze from me?
When we could see wonders of the earth,
Enjoying life with friends and mirth.
We could sail the world from sea to sea,
And still your love would be with me.
Why would we waste out time with talk,
Or days only filled with senseless walks?
When we could discover unknown lands,
All the while traveling hand in hand.
Why then would we tarry so much,
Indulging ourselves in endless touch?
Let us not pursue this selfish fate,
If time and space open its gate.
Let us instead further out minds,
See what knowledge we can find.
Through our journeys still in love we’ll be,
But songs of praise you needn’t sing to me.

  2
As for the time you feel so near,
Your death is something you needn’t fear.
Why think of death when we are so young,
Why not live the life you’ve just begun?
Why worry about our rotting skin,
The insects and worms that may come in?
Why call my honor only quaint?
Why do you wish this body to taint?
Time is only beating at your back
Because of the morals and virtue you lack.
So straighten thee up if I’m to be thine,
and forget these silly thoughts of time.

Why worry about time being gone,
When we can lay here until dawn.
Together we shall sit under sky
So littered with stars I only sigh.
But a moment like this cannot last,
And it could never be surpassed.
So we should follow divine truth,
And should not waste away our youth
On such things as honor and time,
For they will be cut short in their prime.
Eternal sleep may keep us apart,
But darkness cannot tame a longing heart.
I cherish the love that I feel,
And my joy for it I can’t conceal.
