Back to Violette's Corner
The Rose
Amidst rubble and ashes a rose did bloom
ignoring the despair all around,
and chains kept the rose firmly in place
as it’s roots grew deep in the ground.

A beast couldn’t break the toughened chains
that encircled the lovely rose.
Yet the rose didn’t fight to keep its place
and this the beast did know.

With envy it looked upon the rose
that bloomed sweetly for all to see,
and it yearned to possess the forbidden plant
that twinkled with all its beauty.

With jealousy as motive,
and hatred in its eyes,
it did uproot the rose
severing hardened ties.

Yet touched by such a hatred
the rose began to wilt,
and the beast did pay the price—
a soul of all consuming guilt.

And as the rose grew dimmer
the beast began to cry,
and only pieces of him were left
when the rose did die.
