The Wall | ||||||
God showed me a wall made of mortar and stone And told me that the wall was living all alone. He said there was a place where I would find a gate But only if I was willing to stay and patiently wait. I waited at the wall, enticed by its mystery And soon found that the wall was moving closer to me. Eventually I found an opening, though it was dark and unused, And found that my presence inside wouldn’t be refused. The secret garden I entered was filled with treasures untold, Plants with the sweetest fragrance and flowers with colors so bold. There were fountains and babbling brooks to bring sounds of nature to my ears And the gentlest of spring breezes to soothe away my fears. But parts of the garden were dark, where statues stood gothic and mean, With words of despair etched on their surface, crafted by a poet unseen. But the darkness began to brighten as the secrets of paradise were revealed And soon the garden was mine, from me nothing was concealed. So now I live in this garden, hidden behind a sturdy wall, But to me its secrets are known, and I will keep them all. |
