2-5-2007 I woke up this morning to my mother knocking on my door, telling me that we are taking the dog to the vet for the third time this week. She had been crying all night long, and had thrown up a number of times. Since last Tuesday she's been slowly falling apart. We've had tests run, and nothing had come back positive till today...
We took her to the local vet, who quickly became very worried about her condition. She had no circulation in her back legs, at all. They were both stone cold, and when she was poked with sharp scissors, she had no reaction at all.
The vet suggested we take Sue to the specialist we had seen earlier in the week, or put her down. We opted for the drive to Loveland, to give Sue a chance.
When we got to the specialist, they could only give us bad news. Sue had a positive test for lymphoma, and had likely thrown clots into her blood stream, which was causing her back (and now front) legs to stop working. We were told that she only had a 30% chance of survival of this episode. And if she did survive, she wouldn't last any longer then one year with treatment.
It was then we decided to end her suffering. My mom and dad said their goodbyes, and I decided to stay and be with her while it happened. It was very peaceful, but very hard to watch.
She was only 5...
We are all very sad she's gone, and we already missed her very much.
Goodbye Sue...
As most of you probably know, I'm not a spritual person...at all. I don't really have a belief in a higher power, or an afterlife. But, an experience like today has the power to change the way I feel. I hope there is a god, and a heaven, because there is no animal more deserving of a place there then Sue. I hope her spirit lives on, and that right now she's playing frisbee until she can't run anymore... |
