The Volunteer State of Exhaustion

I don't know about your church, but in most others, those that are the busiest are the first to raise their hands when volunteer work is needed.

I have a friend who in an unguarded moment found that he had volunteered to:

...all in one day.

The kindergarten room walls were a strange brownish color. He decided to paint them bright yellow. At each touch of the brush the old paint flaked off like a bad case of dandruff. When he finished, the room looked like a big fly-specked banana. (Guess he was just too volunteered out to prep the walls.)

Next, he weeded the flower beds. Instead of marigolds full of weeds, the church now has weeds with no marigolds. He discovered his mistake when the Pastor's wife came by to watch his progress and left crying.

Then 'till late that night he worked on seven tables with broken legs down in the Primary Department. Seems the little darlings had used them as trampolines. He said he was of the firm conviction that the wrong legs had been broken.

The next morning in worship service he said he found himself dozing off during the sermon. Between cat-naps he heard the choir sing, "Work for the Night is Coming".

He certainly hopes it comes soon. He needs the rest.
