Fun In Space
This is one of those
albums that you have to be in the mood to listen to. It definitely has some
sort of “spacey” feeling to it, I sometimes wonder if Roger was having fun in the
same space Queen did a year later ;).
No Violins is probably the best track the album. Laugh Or Cry starts to ease into the “spacey”
stuff along with another great song, Future Management. Let’s Get Crazy is another one of the
heavier tracks with a strong percussion (typical Roger J). The next four tracks My Country 1 & II,
Good Times Are Now, Magic Is Loose, and Interlude in Constantinople launch
right into the “spaciness” of the album.
My Country 1 & II seems to go on forever falling only 11 seconds
short of 7:00. The rest of the three “spacey”
tracks all use good synthesizers and Roger sings great in them, but like I said
you just have to be in the mood to listen to it. Airheads breaks the ice with some heavy guitar and is followed
buy Fun In Space to wrap the whole thing up.
All in all a good album, but I can see why people in 1981 didn’t particularly
care for it.
