VISIONS MOBILE PANTRY
endeavoring to help feed
hungry families
Have you ever been hungry?
I mean really hungry.  Hungry and you didn't know where your next meal was coming from?  Hungry and hoping that you had enough change to get a snack from the vending machine?
So hungry that you couldn't wait to get home because you knew you had at least a piece of bread to make toast?
Have you ever had that kind of hunger anxiety?  No? Never?  Not ever?
I have and let me tell you, it's a hopeless feeling!  I was in a disabled state due to an on-the-job injury.  Yet, all I heard day after day was that I had not been on the job long enough to get any disability income and I was not disabled enough to get any assistance from the so-called social service agencies.  What little money I was able to get, kept the roof over my head and gas in my car (so I could run from agency to agency just to hear them tell me 'NO').  When this little money ran out, I had to rely on the kindness of family and friends.  So, trust me when I say, "I know hunger and helplessness."

What prompted this ministry?

Besides personal experience, my wife told me how she watched a news magazine program one evening in amazement as the reporting journalist spoke on the outbreak of hunger in America.

As she continued to convey the story, I could hear the struggle in her voice.  It brought back memories as she spoke of the pictures shown of hungry, struggling people.  Some were elderly.  Some were single parents while others were struggling two parent households.  She spoke of how they showed the elderly eating dog and cat food because the meager income they got from social services was not enough for the purchase of food for human consumption.  She spoke of how they showed parents crying because they couldn't afford to purchase breadkfast food for their children and pictures of children eating rottened and spoiled food from garbage cans.  These were not scenes from a third world country.  These were citizens right here in one of the wealthiest nations in the world.

She said that she couldn't believe what she was watching.  After all, with the social and welfare programs we have in this nation, not to mention the number of churches, how could this be?  I could tell her how.  You see, during my journey to find the help I needed, I was met with statements like; "you're not indigent enough to receive assistance from us."  What is indigent enough?  How poor is poor?  My wife asked me why do we have so many hungry families in this nation?  I don't know if it was a rhetorical question or not but, I knew that I didn't have a response.
What Can We Do?
We decided to get involved.  Visions Mobile Pantry was established in support of feeding the hungry families of the Metropolitan area of Washington, District of Columbia.  We endeavor to deliver, or make available, non-perishable food items at low-to-no charge, to those who have the most urgent need.

In a future partnership with local area hotels, restaurants and grocers, we endeavor to expand the program to include meats, poultry and other creature comfort items.

It is our hope that the local area churches and social agencies will also partner with us to determine and identify the families with the greatest needs.  It is our belief that children should not have to worry about where their next meal will come from.  Hard working parents should not have to choose between keeping a roof over their family's head and putting food in their mouths.  We also believe that we as a society, should be a little more concerned with the health and welfare of the elderly.  They raised us, sacrificed for us, and gave us our rich legacies.  Now it's our turn to show how appreciative we are for their struggle.
What Can You Do?
CONSIDER!  If you feel that this ministry is worthwhile, help us help others.  If you've ever been hungry, then you understand.

GIVE!  Visions Mobile Pantry is not yet a non-profit ministry so, at the present time, your giving will not be tax deductible.  However, we are in the process of making that a reality.  We'll understand if you'd rather wait, though any little bit you provide will go a long way to helping feed the hungry and your reward will be that you made it possible.

HELP!  Help us feed Americans one family at a time.  If you know of a family in the metropolitan area that could benefit from this ministry, contact us and we'll do the rest.

Thank you in advance for your generous and unselfish support.
