Protests

There's nothing better than a good protest. Emotions run hot, tension is thick in the air and, in some cases, so is the tear gas.

While I haven't seen any protests turn violent in South Africa, I have seen a lot of anger. To date I have been to two protests, one following the beginning of the war in Iraq and the second was actually a march through Durban to protest the privatisation of the harbour.

With a large Muslim population and popular opinion opposing the war, it wasn't surprising that there was a large number of people on the streets of Durban in front of the American embassy.

What was surprising to me was to see the large number of kids with signs attached to them being used to bolster the crowd's numbers. The looks of innocence painted a grim contrast to the serious messages taped to their chests. Right or wrong? The only word I'd use is different.
