The Republic of Macedonia is situated at the southern part of the Balkan peninsula, with an exeptional geographic location, at the cross-roads which cannected Europe with Middle East and Asia for thousands of years. Macedonia is a land of sunshine, lakes, valleys and beautiful mountains, a country of great history and tradition. There are more than 400 archeological sites on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia. 150 are regarded as a cultural monuments. Significant archeological sites are Stobi, Heraclea Lyncaestis, Skupi, Vinitsa citadel... In Macedonia existing 1720 churches and monasteries - some of them older than 10 centuries - 135 regarded as cultural monuments. |
