Psyschogeography is a revitalized movement among some anarchists who wander around cities and disrupt the status quo as it operates to control urban populations. Sometimes tagging is involved or re-arranging police blockades. Psychogeography seems like a good idea but we, the invisible Chicano vanguard of Momentary Lapses of Consciousness, have determined that for our particular situation it is necessary to escalate the issue of whatever the fuck psyche qua geography may be. Consequently we have developed our own unsystemic anti-psychology called GeoLoco Resistance discussed below.
This notice attends to questions of syncretism, multi-culturalism, class, race, gender, hybridity and post-modernity as it affects Chican@/Latin@ realities. The purpose is to issue a non-manifesto and convoluted guideline to an approach of Critical Chicano Psychology. This is based on Locura, the Pachuco form of celebrating mindless acts of rebellion, which gave rise to Vato Locos y Locas of the early 1940's and 50's. A lifestyle that is still being applied but with the nihilistic use of Uzi's.
In the realm of psychotherapy the places, times or texts are situational in character with responses depending on adaptation or resistance to domination. The frame of analysis is loosely based on the theories of Guy Debord (as presented in his work The Society of the Spectacle) and linked to regional issues of border culture and hyphenated existence. Geopolitical Psychopathology refers to the process by which dominant society purposely infects the world, particularly the third world, with madness. (see iatrogenisis).
Locura and GeoLoco Resistance.
The underlying premise is that Locura is a healthy response to Geopolitical depravity, a form of mental illness imposed by the corporate elite upon the working class, poor and peasant castes. GeoLoco Resistance is a lifestyle that counters the burden of dominant white society by using Locura as a defense against commodificatoion of the body and soul. In the spirit of Social Action Therapy the GeoLoco model teaches people that the best way to resist the stress of modernization (post or otherwise) is to fight back through the deliberate construction of Locura and non-conformist / anti-social personalities. We seek to expand beyond Chicano/Latino boundaries and share Locura with the world. To this end Lowrider MagazineŠ has been sold to a multinational publisher who promises to disfigure Chicano/Latino culture until it reappears in the former Soviet Union and read by a Moscow Mafioso in Armani drag.
Otherwise, to be free, in the psychological sense, is to create your life as an art of resistance against mass marketing and the objectification of the self as a commodity. The GeoLoco Movement and Locura as a psychotictherapy has developed the following model (one if many) of a GeoPathology dynamic. It is based on Lacanian/Fanon conceptions of the Other as an object of projected loathing and forbidden desire.
