TRUE FRIEND
What would I give for a true friend.
Would I give treasure. Would I give gold.
That might give pleasure but
Would the friendship hold.

What would I give for a true friend,
And how would I know that he's true.
Would he flatter me. Would he bring to me
All the things that are now over due.

What in the world is a true friend.
As friends I've had in the past.
Have they stayed with me. Have they played with me.
Why is it their love didn't last.

What would I be as a true friend.
Would I cherish him just 'cause he is he.
Would I sing to him. Would I bring to him
All those things that have turned into me.

Would I not fly with my true friend
Over valleys and orchards and plain.
Would I reach for him. Would he reach for me
Would we rest with each other till the sun shines again.

What could I give to my true friend
Surly treasures will rust in the rain.
Would my treasure of love and a hug and a shove
Grace his life and his spirit maintain.
