WINTERS  WIND

On a stormy day in May,
The promise of the sun
Sits like icing on the clouds
But I remain in shrouds
With the wind at my back.

I've sat naked in the sun
But the clouds keep rolling on.
They cast upon my heart
Shadows long and thin and dark.
And the wind, relentless, whirls.

Step lightly as you walk
'round the pebbles made of chalk
They lie here in the sand
Just the workings of a man.
Hear the wind rush against them.

Then why do I remain
On this beach conceived of pain
Are my dreams just dreams in vain?
Will I ever love again?
And the wind won't answer back

Yet they now and then reveal
A warmth my heart can feel.
A warmth like none I've had and
Makes me hopeful, drives me mad.
And the wind whispers, let go.

Yet how can I let go
When the season filled with snow
Races at me round the bend
And my youth is near it's end.
And the wind laughs, "you fool"

It seems so easy to wait the storm
When the sky returns the norm
And the sun returns above
And too returns my love.
Yet the wind returns it's scorn.

How long then must I wait
While the sun and clouds debate
All the trifles of this world
Caring not my souls unfurled.
And the wind, relentless, whirls.

Oh rush to me my love
Transcend the clouds that form above.
Let our hearts together sing
On these last few days of borrowed Spring.
And the wind in silence, waits.

And the wind in silence knows

When the wind in silence snows.
