David McKnight
Young Dave and Daddy Gene 1960
David was born in Lockney Texas on August 2, 1959. David’s background in music is somewhat of a family tradition. His father "Dorsey" Gene McKnight enjoyed a musical career as a guitarist, performing as accompaniment for the world champion  fiddler, and faher to the legendary Bob Wills, Uncle John Wills (1946-52), as well as performing with Jimmy Dean for five years (1953-58), and performing as a gospel tenor from 1962 thru 2000. David began to display his musical talents at the age of five, By age nine he discovered his natural affinity for percussion. He quickly developed his talent, and had begun playing professionally by age thirteen. He attended high school in Lubbock Texas and college in Denison Texas at Grayson County College, where he majored in Psychology. Throughout high school and college David played shows at night, while attending classes during the day. He spent a good deal of time touring after college in both the U.S. and Canada. During this period, David had the opportunity to work with such notables as Rufus Thomas, Bob White, and James Cotton. In 1984 David decided to focus his creative energies on songwriting. Over the past two decades his catalogue has grown to include over three thousand songs that span the musical spectrum from Southern Gospel to Alternative Rock. His efforts have led to a number of successful recordings by artists such as The Moffatts, Coco Montoya, Debbie Davies, and Gary P. Nunn. David’s artistic contributions are not limited solely to the music industry, as he has also worked extensively in the film industry. He has held positions, on various features such as "Biloxi Blues" and "Tuskegee Airmen". David currently co-manages "Texas Hippie Coalition" with Donnie Frizzell and Frizzell Management and Promotions Intl Inc., he is also a consultant for On-Sight Photography, a small north Texas based photography company specializing in promotional and commercial photography. David is a partner in ARM Band Publishing BMI, and his current musical project is a roots concept band, which he has dubbed "Doublewides", and of course he continues to build his ever expansive song catalog. David lives in Denison Texas, and is happily married to Rita, his wife of 20 yrs. He has a son (Dustin 22), and a daughter (Chelsea 19), and is a proud grandfather of an energetic 2 year old boy named Austin.
