Brussels

Our first stop was the old 1958 Expo site. Here, the main focus was the Atomium, to
symbolize peaceful ways of using nuclear energy. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of irony standing there at this
day and age.

The old Expo pavilions still stand, marking Brussels as a truly
international city.

Here is Grand Place, the town square of all town squares. Truly awe-inspiring, the buildings of the
ancient guilds and the town hall make it easy to imagine the bustle that was
once here in the Middle Ages. Of
course, there is now a different sort of bustle: that of local artists and the
tourists who gladly become their customers.

One more look at the impressive buildings before disappearing into
the crowd on one of the side streets and dodging into a narrow restaurant for
some moules frites.
