Amid the bustle, amid the noise we hear;
We carry on from day to day,
His knock deaf to our ears.

We deal with life as it may come, frustrations all around
few smiles seen, few greetings heard,
we never hear a sound.

We live our lives in anger accompanied by fear;
We walk along in restless paths,
His Knock we do not hear.

We live in misconceptions, and each day wonder why
There is no peace within our souls
With each day that goes by.

We look everywhere for comfort, someone to understand.
We look around from side to side,
As we travel on this land.

We won't encounter comfort, we won't encounter peace;
We wont encounter happiness,
And we won't find release.

We've all had times of which I speak, and I myself am one.
But I have found that peacefulness
On the 'outside' won't be found.

I've had to look within myself, and put aside my fears,
And search within my saddened soul,
And dry away my tears.

How can I listen for His knock, when I am not at rest?
If I don't find the 'me' within,
I'll never find my "Guest".

We must be silent within our souls and put away our fear;
And if we listen closely,
His knock we soon shall hear.

If our lives are to be centered on One who gives us life,
We all must learn to look 'within',
And put away all strife.

I know one thing that I have learned as sure as God above;
I will not find the peace I need
If I don't know how to love.

"Love one another, as I have loved you"
