Eurail Passes offer free transportation on the boats of many shipping lines such as the international connections between Italy and Greece by the boats of Blue Star Ferries, Hellenic Mediterranean Lines (HML) and Superfast Ferries and between Sweden and Finland by the boats of the Silja Line. Free transportation is also offered on national tracks such as the Rhine cruises and the boats on many of the Swiss lakes. Other lines offer reductions to Pass holders.

Reminder: For international shipping lines: In general, the Pass has to be valid in the country of departure OR the country of arrival. When indicated, the Pass has to be valid in BOTH the country of departure AND the country of arrival, or in one specific country. For domestic shipping lines: the Pass has to be valid in the country concerned.

If it exceeds or is lesser than a pass by a US$50 - US$75, it may be worth purchasing a pass. You can at least avoid queues for day trains, since most do not require reservation. If you buy yourself a pass, make sure it is validated by the issuing travel agent for the duration for which it is purchased. You have enter the date of of your journey before you board a train, read the instructions supplied with your pass on its correct usage.
