Michael walked down the hallway, with the three boys in toe, searching for his sisters. He found all three in the middle of the lobby talking to a human lemon. The girl had on some outrageous colors. As he walked up to the group there was a sudden crackle of emotion sweeping through him. He felt uncertainty, fear even. He shrugged it off quickly but it wouldn’t go away. He’d have to talk to the others later. “Liz, Tess, Isabel this is Max and Kyle. They’re new.” Michael said not waiting to get to the point. “This is Maria DeLuca.” Tess said looking over at the girl who had suddenly became very quiet. “Our sister.” Max said smiling at her. “They will take you to gym, and they are the girls to talk to about sports.” Michael said relaxing a bit. “They are three of Roswell’s finest cheer leaders.” Alex said smiling proudly. Tess and Isabel gave him a look, “Isabel is the captain and Tess is the Co-captian.” He added quickly. “Max the football player and Kyle the basket ball boy.” Tess said smiling. “I can take care of basket ball tryouts and Liz can handle the football try outs.” Tess said looking over at Liz as for confirmation. “Sure, I’ll get right on it.” Liz said repositioning her book. “Well they’ll take you to class, as for me I’m off to English for a wonderful two hours, wish me luck.” Michael said turning around. “Michael, can you take her to class?” Tess asked. “Sure.” He said stopping and turning around to wait for her. “Later guys.” Maria called walking off to join Michael where he was standing. “So you like Metallica?” Maria asked to fill the silence. “You tried to kill Kyle with it?” He asked in return. She smiled at him and shook her head. He didn’t know why but that small movement had a huge effect on him. “This is Mrs. Sharp’s room. She’s a bit off, but most teachers in West Roswell are.” Michael said before heading towards the very back of the class. Maria walked in and found a million eyes on her. She suddenly felt very self conscious she quickly followed Michael towards the back of the classroom. “I hate when people stare at me.” She said sitting down right beside him. She looked over at him and he caught her bright green eyes wild with embarrassment. He couldn’t look away. They were… mesmerizing. They were lit with a bright burning fire. He bet they would look even better if she were mad… “Then why did you come to school dressed up as a lemon?” He asked. “I don’t look like a lemon. Just cause I’m wearing yellow doesn’t mean I want be to gawk at me.” She said rummaging through her messenger bag for a piece of gum. “Human porcupine.” She muttered under her breath. ‘Well you got the porcupine part right.’ Michael thought with a small smirk. “Can I have a piece?” He asked as she pulled out a couple of wrapped sticks. “You don’t actually expect me to give you a piece after you just called me a lemon, do you? Besides you wouldn’t like it.” She said popping a piece into her mouth. He watched her hands and tongue and mouth all work together. She had the softest looking lips and they looked like they would taste just right. “Please?” He asked shaking himself out of his trance. Once she had made the mistake of giving one of her friends a piece and they had gone into water mode fast. What could she say? Not everyone could handle Tabasco and mint gum. It was her favorite. Max and Kyle liked strange combos too, but they all differed in detailed flavor. “Class today we’re going to break off into pairs and read the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.” Said the teacher in a high voice. Maria cringed she didn’t like Romeo and Juliet. They ended up dead; but then again if the only way they could be together was in death maybe it wasn’t as bad as it seemed. Besides the whole not breathing-decaying thing it sound OK. “Please review over the material briefly.” The teacher said returning to her desk to take attendance. “Mrs. Sharp, I don’t have a book.” Maria said shyly, she really did hate being looked at. It made her feel like she was being displayed, but that was crazy. The only people she liked to be paid attention to by were Kyle and Max and they were her brothers. The teacher looked around the room and walked over to the closet she returned empty handed. “I’m sorry, I don’t have any. Can you share and by tomorrow I should have one for you.” The teacher gave her a sympathetic look and walked back over to her desk. “Share?” She asked looking over at Michael. “Gum?” Michael asked not looking up from his open book, which he wasn’t reading. “Deal.” She said tossing him a piece she had in her pocket. She hopped it burnt his mouth. He caught it and scooted his desk closer so they could both see the book. He popped the gum into his mouth the taste of mint and Tabasco teased his taste buds. He looks over at her in bewilder, how could she handle this combination? Not even Tess, Liz, and Isabel liked that. He was the only one that could handle it. “I told you, you wouldn’t like it. I’m the only one that does.” She said not looking over at him. She could feel his dark intense eyes on her. It felt like he could see right through her wall that she had carefully built over the years of hiding. “So you like Metallica?” Michael asked repeating her earlier question. “OK, I’ll set one up.” The coach said smiling at his favorite cheerleader. “Thanks coach.” Liz smiled walking out of his office and looking over at Max who just smiled a little. “He’ll set one up for you.” She said once she reached him. She couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face. She didn’t know why but she just felt… right, when he was around. “OK, you try out tomorrow after school, is that OK?” Tess asked walking over to where Kyle was sitting. “Thanks.” He said looking up into her crystal eyes. He didn’t know what it was about her; she just made him feel something, but the annoying thing was that he didn’t know what it was he felt Tess smiled and nodded before walking off to find Isabel. “Dogeball.” Coach Johnson called out loudly. All the boys started to race into the center of the basketball court forming a line. “We’re going to play dogeball, we all line up and the coach picks team captains.” Alex said to Max and Kyle before running off and joining in the line “I am horrible at this game.” Max whispered to Alex as they lined up next to him. Alex only smiled. He always loved showing off his ‘skills’ Isabel looked from Tess to Liz and back to the court. “So who will when this time?” Tess asked even though they all knew the answer. “Maybe the new guys will give him some kind of challenge.” Isabel said. Alex always won. Dogeball was the only sport he excelled in. There wasn’t a guy in class that could beat him. It kind of made Isabel proud. She smiled as she and her friends watched Alex jump over the ball and land with perfect balance. “You think he’d be good at cheer leading?” Liz asked out of the blue and both girls whirled to look at her. “Where the wild things are!” Michael said through gritted teeth. “FUEL!” Maria said her voice raising in volume. They had been calmly talking about why Metallica rocked, and he, the idiot, had to say that ‘Where the Wild Things are’ was better than ‘Fuel’, and there was no way on earth that it was. “There is no way that Fuel is better!” Michael said glaring at her. “What planet are you from? There is no way that Fuel isn’t better buck-o! I seriously think that you have fried way more than you hair!” She said returning his glaze head on. He was right her eyes did look better when they were angry. The colors danced along in their spheres. They were so bright and alive, so unlike any of the other girls in this school, even in this town. They intrigued him, they called him and on top of that her lips were pouted in an irritated facial expression. They looked so tender and soft and strong and… tasty. He bet they tasted just like her gum. He bet they tasted perfect. Suddenly they were moving at an alarming pace. He shook his head briefly and refocused his concentration on what she was saying. “And for the record Fuel is the best for so many reason and Where the Wild Things Are is just a flat out mistake…” She droned on and on, she wasn’t even aware of what she was saying anymore. She hoped she wasn’t making to big of an idiot out of herself yet, but she just couldn’t stay focused, especially when he was just sitting there watching her with those eyes and those lips. He looked… edible. She wouldn’t mind devouring him whole. He would taste just like her gum only hotter. From the look of his body he would definitely taste hotter. “Will you shut up?” He hollered loudly. “That’s it you two, to the office.” Mrs. Sharp looked like she was about to have a heart attack on the spot. Maria jerked up her messenger bag and headed heatedly towards the door. Michael starred after her briefly before gathering up his things as well, and walking out of the room. Maria stood there in the middle of the hall concentrating hard. She couldn’t remember how to get to the office. The only thing she could remember was the feel of his eyes. She felt like he was still staring at her. She whirled around; he was staring at her. “What do you want?” She growled. “Do you even know where the office is?” He asked walking up towards her. “What do you think?” She asked bitterly. “Follow me.” He said just as roughly and started to walk down the hall the opposite way. She reluctantly followed him after a few brief moments. It wasn’t so bad she could check him out all the way to the office and she was always in trouble in one way or another, her parents had just come to except it. Even though she knew that since they moved they hopped she would have straightened out. They blamed her friends for her disobedience, but it wasn’t her friends that were the problem. It was her. He could feel her eyes traveling up and down his body. They felt penetrating. He smirked and looked straight ahead. Suddenly he stopped and turned around. “What?” She asked still angry with him. “Office.” He said pointing right behind her. She whirled around to find that they had both passed up the entrance. She looked at him and walked in. He followed her reluctantly. “Good job Whitman!” Coach called as he dismissed them to get dressed. The girls had already dressed in. They had finally gotten their routine down packed. The girls walked towards the double doors leading out into the hallway. “So they rave? Are we going to make an appearance or just hang at home?” Isabel asked. “I want to go. I was thinking about inviting Max.” Liz said looking over towards the locker room. Max, Kyle and Alex came out and started to walk towards them. “I was thinking Kyle.” Tess said licking her lips. “Cool then we’re going.” Isabel said watching Alex walk up to them with his award-winning grin. “Good job Alex.” Liz said smiling. Alex held up his hand and received a high five from all the girls in the group. “Rave?” Liz asked looking at him. “You know they’re not my scene.” Alex said for the millionth time. She was almost as bad as her brother was, she wouldn’t take no for an answer. “Point?” Tess asked. “Yeah, Alex you have to go. Would you say yeas if we drag Michael along too?” Isabel asked wanting him to come along. She loved doing things with, but like he had said her scenes weren’t his. “I don’t know…” Alex began only to get cut off by Liz. “We could get other guys to come too.” She offered. “Yeah, but your guy friends aren’t my guy friends. I mean no offense but my friends actually know how to use their brains. That’s why threy’re my friends.” Alex said remembering what happened last time they had caved. “What about Kyle and Max? If we make them come then will you come too?” Tess asked. “You can’t go ordering people around, and I doubt they would want to go. “So do you two want to go?” Liz asked only focusing on Max. “I’m up for it. Kyle?” Max turned to his brother that was glancing at Tess. “Yeah sounds like fun.” He said turning to his brother. “See there are three guys that actually use their brains going. So what do you say?” Isabel asked eager to hear his answer. “Fine. I’ll go, but I won’t dance.” He finally caved in. “Great. Thank you Alex.” Liz said hugging him “You’re the best.” Tess joined in. “You won’t regret it.” Isabel added her too joining in the group hug. “Yeah I will.” He muttered under his breath. “Next stop third hour. What do you two have?” Tess asked the new boys that looked both amused and uncomfortable at the same time. “I have Biology.” Max said. “And I have History.” Kyle said in defeat; he hated history. “Well, I’m off to Math and that right next to Mr. Finch’s class. So I’ll take you to History.” Tess said smiling. “I have biology next so I’ll show you where it is.” Liz said looking over at Max. The bell rang and the other students began to walk towards the exits. Liz and Max walked through the crowd one way and Tess led Kyle the other. “So, to English my lady?” Alex asked extending an arm. “To English, good sir.” Isabel said taking it with a smile. They too trudged down the crowded exits. |
